Ed Arnold attended Kenner for six years in the 1960's from grade 9 to 13.  At first he entered a technical course, but the next year switched to arts and sciences.  He attended Sir Sandford Fleming College where journalism twigged his curiosity.

He started at the Examiner as a darkroom technician.  As he did his darkroom work he kept learning from newsroom employees.  One day his break came and an editor assigned him to provincial Court.  The next day he was hired as a reporter.  Ed covered several beats in the Examiner before becoming City Editor, a job that he kept for seven years. 

Ed Arnold is now the managing editor of The Peterborough Examiner, Peterborough's daily newspaper. He has won numerous newspaper awards, received the Ontario Medal of Citizenship for his work with children in the community and formed a children's charity in the community called Kids In Need. He has also written four local books, with another coming out this fall. A national book, commissioned by McClelland and Stewart on minor hockey in Canada will also be released this fall.  He is married with two children.

After graduating from Kenner he attended the University of Waterloo and then Trent University.  Played varsity hockey at Trent, and worked as a summer representative for Molson Breweries allowing him to make many community contacts and become involved in local charity and community supported events.  Upon graduation from Trent Cam became a local business entrepreneur opening a sports store known as Racquets and Jackets.  He supported many local leagues, teams, charities and events, and he was involved in the original development of minor football in Peterborough serving as the first coach.

Cam accepted a position in Sales with Molson in late 1979, moved out of Peterborough but maintained strong ties to the area.  While working at Molson, he has had involvement with fund-raises for Cancer treatment and research, Big Brothers, Children's Aid Society and many other local campaigns.  The role he takes the greatest pride in, aside from his wife Barb and two children and coaching minor sports, has been the creation of the Bev Hewitt Charity Fund at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  He has raised thousands of dollars in memory of Bev and that support has helped improve Cancer treatment at St. Joseph’s and in the Peterborough area.

Gary attended Kenner Collegiate from 1969-1974.  In 1971 he received the Wass Memorial trophy as the top junior athlete at Kenner.  He was a member of the C.O.S.S.A. champion Kenner golf team in 1973.  He received his athletic shield in 1974 and Gold K.  He played Junior B Hockey in Peterborough (Captain 1974-75).  Gary attended Mount Allison University in 1975 to play varsity hockey.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trent University in 1978 and a bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University in 1979.  He began his career as an elementary teacher the same year.  Gary is heavily involved in coaching, managing and officiating hockey in Peterborough.  He has coached all levels from mite to Junior “A”.  Currently, he is Coach/General Manager of the Peterborough Junior “A” Hockey Club.  Gary earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto in 1986.  He served two years as President of the local Elementary Teacher’s Federation and spent three years as an Elementary Vice-Principal.  In 1994, Gary researched and co-wrote a book entitled, “Five Decades with the Petes.”  In 1999 Gary was presented with the 3M Coaching Recognition Award for outstanding commitment to the coaching of amateur hockey in Canada and in 2000, he received the “Presidents’ Award” for outstanding dedication and service to the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council.  Now in his 23rd year of teaching, Gary continues to reside in Peterborough with Debbie, his wife of 25 years and their two sons, Andrew 20 and Brad 18.

Don grew up in Peterborough, attending Prince of Wales Public School before graduating from Kenner in 1960.  He graduated from the Peterborough Teacher’s College and Trent University.  Don taught school for thirty-four years in Peterborough at Westmount Public School, Thomas A. Stewart S.S., P.C.V.S., and for a semester at Kenner Collegiate.

Don has been active in lacrosse; coaching at the minor, high school, junior, major, professional and international levels.  In 1978 he was a coach on the Canadian national Field Lacrosse team that won the World Championship.

He has been inducted into the Peterborough District Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Since 1981 he has been a scout with the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.  He writes a weekly sports column in the Peterborough Examiner and has published three books on athletics in the city.

I would like to thank Mr. Noftall who said that I may end up doing dishes the rest of my life, because I have.  I purchased my first of four businesses when I was 25 years old, a Dairy Queen franchise.  I also designed and operated: Malts ‘n More, Chicken Little and la Renaissance Catering.  The later still in existence.

I have achieved many awards over the years which included: increased sales, productivity, purity, and customer service.  My passion, drive and determination was the catalyst to success.

My community service involvement: Board of Directors Mount Carmel House a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centre (10 years) Cadillac Fairview Board of Directors Vice President (4 years) Battered Women’s Shelters in three cities, Big Sisters and feeding the homeless and underprivileged.  We have the ability to be anything we desire, everything is possible.  I wish you peace and love and much success, Donna.

Paul graduated from Kenner C.V.I. in 1965 and from Trent University in 1968. (B.Sc.)  He did graduate studies in limnology at the University of Manitoba and the Freshwater Institute, Winnipeg. (Msc. 1976).  He attained Ph.D equivalency in 1982.

Paul began his career with the Freshwater Institute as a summer student in 1968, assisting in eutrophication studies at the Experimental Lakes Area and on Lake Winnipeg.  1970-1975 he was chemist and project coordinator for the Nitrilotriacetate and MacKenzie Valley Pipeline Projects.  1976-1988 he was head and manager of the Fish Habitat Research Division where multi-disciplinary ecosystem research was conducted in order to develop timely and sound freshwater habitat and fisheries management strategies.  The issues addressed, of national and international scope, were associated with the major energy-generating alternatives; combustion of fossil fuels, nuclear power and hydroelectric power.  These studies received international recognition for relevance and research excellence.  1988-1995 Paul was scientist in charge of the Lake Variation and Climate Change Study designed to predict responses of Canadian Shield lakes to global warming.  During Paul’s career with the Freshwater Institute he authored or co-authored 25 scientific papers and reports, co-edited special series, participated in policy development, and served on national committees as well as an International Joint Commission reference.

Since retiring from the Freshwater Institute, Paul has taken on the position of first board chair of the South Eastman Regional Health Authority, which is responsible to the Manitoba Government for planning and delivering health care programs and services to residents of southeastern Manitoba.  He is also a member of the Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba’s Council of Chairs, and other provincial committees.

After graduating from Kenner in 1963 Sharon attended Peterborough Teachers' College and was selected as one of the top ten future teachers. Her career started in North York in 1964. During her teaching career she held the position of Consultant, Elementary and Secondary Vice-Principal and Principal with Victoria County. From 2000-2003 Sharon was selected to be Principal of the Canadian International School of Hong King which proved to be an experience of a lifetime. For the past four years, Sharon has been the Co-ordinator/Lecturer with Queen's-Trent Concurrent Education Program. Sharon obtained a BA from Trent, a MEd from University of Toronto where she also received her Supervisory Officer's Qualifications and taught the Principals' Course. Sharon's volunteer work has included curriculum writing and the training of volunteers for Palliative Care, Alzheimer's and Community Care. In her spare time Sharon enjoys watercolour artwork, needlepoint, travelling with her husband, and playing the piano for charity events with the L'll Big Band.

Sharon shares this honour with her husband of 43 years, Murray, also a Kenner Alumnus, her two sons, Brad and Rob and their partners Erin and Laura and a lovely grand-daughter Cate. Sharon also shares this honour in memory of her older sister, Gail, who attended Kenner a year ahead of her. Gail went on to graduate from Queen's with a Bachelor of Nursing Science, and was tragically killed three months after starting her career with the Peterborough Health Unit.

Stephen has been involved with the sport of hockey most of his life, but over the last 38 years he has dedicated his services to the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament.  His involvement in the Tournament started as a result of his work within the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League. Through those years he became involved in executive positions of the League, eventually becoming President in 1978.  During his term as President, one of his duties was to sit on the board of directors of the Tournament.  When his term as President expired he was asked to join the Tournament board of directors, and became Chairman in 1987, a position he still holds.

Stephen has been graciously bestowed various awards including the Frank Lustic Award for volunteer work within the Church League and the Tournament, Sportsperson of the Year, and recently a Civic Service Award from the City of Peterborough.  He also enjoys other sports, such as golf at the Kawartha Golf and Country Club, where he served as a board member for three years.  He has coached soccer, hockey, and baseball and has served as league President in a local five pin bowling association.  Stephen married his high school sweetheart, Joan, who also attended Kenner and together have raised two wonderful children whom they are very proud.  Their daughter Nicole, who is home from three years of teaching in Scotland with her husband Paul, and their son Andrew, a second year poser linesmen apprentice.  

DR. DOUGLAS CHENOWETH

After graduating from Kenner in 1960, Doug entered medicine at University of Toronto in 1963.  He participated in the pilot clinical clerkship program at Wellesley Hospital, graduating as an MD in 1967.  Being unsure about surgery as a specialty, and coming from a long line of doctors in the family, Doug entered the surgical preceptor ship program in Peterborough.  After a year of internal medicine in Vancouver and a residency in diagnostic radiology at Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Doug, in 1972 was approached by Sunnybrook to join the staff.  Some research topics while there included radiopharmaceutical development, investigation of epiphora (tearing) as well as investigation into pelvic trauma.

In 1986 Doug took over the mammography program at Civic Hospital, adding ultrasound and work-up to that service.  In 1992, he and Dr. John Rowsom formed his second breast assessment service in Ontario performing vacuum-assisted needle biopsies and lymph node staging tests using radio pharmaceuticals.  In April 2006 Doug left Peterborough Regional Health Centre and is now the Director of the Medical Centre Breast Clinic.

JOHN COTTON

John graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1970, Trent University in 1974 (B.A. Hon., Politics), and from Queen's University in 1975 (M.P.A.).  He worked for the Department of the Secretary of State (Canada) for seven years.  He then joined the Alberta Government as Senior Intergovernmental Officer.  John specialized, first, in constitutional matters then in international Policy and Co-ordination.  He rose to the position of Director, International Policy and Co-ordination.

DARLENE P. CROOKS (nee TRIPP), B.A., LL.B.

Darlene P. Crooks is a local lawyer practicing in criminal and family law.  Ms. Crooks attended Kenner from 1964 to 1967, and subsequently put herself through university and law school at a time when her children were also enrolled in school.  She completed a degree in Philosophy at Trent University, and one of her courses piqued her interest in law.  As a result, she attended law school at the University of Windsor and was called to the Bar in 1991.

After graduation from law school, she articled with the prominent law firm of Bartlet & Richardes in Windsor, where she was encouraged as a courtroom advocate.  This exposure influenced her decision with respect to the areas of law she now practices. Since returning to Peterborough, she has worked with the community as an advocate of social justice helping those who cannot afford legal representation.

Outside of law, Ms. Crooks is an aspiring writer.

PAUL CROOKALL

At Kenner from 1961 to 1965, Paul contributed to the choir, drama club, chess club and debating.  A graduate of Trent and University of Western Ontario (Ph.D. business) he was C.E.O. of two forensic psychiatric hospitals , and senior advisor to the Commissioner of Corrections.  He spearheaded development of programs that reduced offender recidivism by half, and received the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal for his contributions to better-managed prisons and safer communities.

Paul co-authored the best-selling book, The Three Pillars of Public Management, now used in several graduate courses and by the United Nations to help developing countries.

Paul has contributed to the community service as a foster parent, a Big Brother, a church elder, volunteer manager of a South American mission, and as a member of the Board of Governors of Trent and the University of Western Ontario.

He lives in Ottawa and consults on excellence in public management.

JENNIFER CRUMP (nee BURKE)

Jenni is a freelance journalist and author.  Her articles have appeared in numerous North American magazines including Reader’s Digest, Canadian Geographic, Today’s Parent, Worth, Writer’s Digest and Michigan Living.  She has written for business, parenting and travel publications as well as for many trade magazines.  Her recent articles have covered everything from initial public offerings to teenage volunteers to a behind the scenes look at the Stratford Festival.

Jennifer is also the author of Frommer’s Toronto with Kids published in 2001 by CDG Macmillan.

Jennifer graduated from Kenner in 1982 and attended Trent and Queen’s universities earning degrees in history and education.  She taught high school English and history for five years before her eldest daughter was born in 1992.  She began freelancing in 1988.

Jennifer lives in northern Ontario with her husband Alex and their five daughters: Laura, Emily, Alexandria, Kathleen and Danielle and the family husky - Patches.

NICHOLAS DARBY

Nicholas followed his graduation from K.C.V.I. with an Honours B.Sc. from Queen's University in 1968.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in 1972.  He is a fellow of University College, London (U.K.) 1972-74.  Nicholas was a research associate at the University of British Columbia in 1974-76.  He is currently the Senior Research Manager with Dow Chemical Canada Inc.

Paul attended Kenner Collegiate in 1982-1987.  He was an active member of the football, lacrosse and hockey teams.  Kenner provided a positive foundation for his many later experiences.

Paul continued his education in New York and in Ottawa completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.  He then pursued a career in Law Enforcement where he presently works as a Detective for the Niagara Regional Police.  He resides in Thorold, Ontario.

Paul has given back to the sport of lacrosse and through his involvement, he has enjoyed a second career and many exciting opportunities.  He played minor and Jr. lacrosse in Peterborough, Senior in Vancouver and Professional with the Buffalo Bandits.  He coached the St. Catharines Jr. Athletics and has coached the Rochester Knighthawks of the National lacrosse league for the past eight years.

Paul owes much of his success to hard work, dedication and the support of his family, friends and teachers.

Stephen Day attended K.C.V.I. from 1978 to 1983.  He played on four Ontario Championship Field Lacrosse teams and on one Kawartha Championship team.  He graduated from Trent University with a B.A. in Political Studies and English Literature.  He worked for the Campbell Soup Company Ltd. as Logistics/Purchasing Co-ordinator and was in charge of the Toronto Soup Plant's Packaging department.  In 1996 he started The Pallet Bureau Ltd. which by the time he sold it in 2001 had become Canada’s largest returnable container tracking company.  He now owns and operates Christie Lake Cottages & Marina.

George Dearing was born in Unity, Saskatchewan and grew up in Peterborough.  After attending K.C.V.I., he went to Trent University (1969) B.Sc., (Honours).  His M.A. in Social Anthropology came in 1975 from the University of Saskatchewan.  His LLB from the University of Calgary followed in 1985.  George has a general Law practice in High River, Alberta.  He is Proprietor and president of a Parent Operated Private Kindergarten.  He is married with two children and enjoys designing and building furniture.  His interests lie in the fields of Ancient, Medieval, and Military History.

After graduating from Kenner Collegiate in 1971, Edwin R. DeBruyn graduated from Ontario Police College and worked as a constable in Peterborough until 1976.  In 1980 he received a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree in Aquatic Ecology from Trent University.  Thereafter, he was recruited by the Experimental Limnology Program at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Freshwater Institute, Winnipeg, Manitoba.  From 1980 through 1990 he worked both in Winnipeg, and Experimental Lakes Research facility in Northwestern Ontario undertaking phytoplankton research.  The Team’s research led to an ecosystem level of understanding of acid rain, eutrophication, and climate change impacts to lakes.  The results led to Canada-USA and international agreements, and approaches on reducing phosphates in detergents and emissions causing acid rain.  In 1990 he moved to the Canada Centre for Inland Waters, Burlington, Ontario to do research on near-shore fish productivity. In 1992 he began working in the department’s Ecosystem Management Branch.  Since then he has held a number of positions including:  Senior Biologist; Senior Advisor; Chief-Habitat Blueprint Initiative; Chief-Ontario Habitat Operations; Regional Habitat Manager; and Area Director, Ecosystem Management for Ontario and the Great Lakes.  Over the course of his career, he has written and contributed to numerous technical manuscripts and peer reviewed reports and contributed to development of national and regional policies and programs in support of Canada’s sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems.  His contributions and leadership to managing aquatic ecosystems have been formally recognized a number of times including twice receiving a prestigious departmental Prix d’excellence. 

Dr. John Dickie attended Kenner from 1980 - 1985.  He played soccer throughout his time here, and was a Prefect in his final two years.  After two years of undergraduate study at Queen’s University, he started medical school at Queen’s in 1987.  After graduation in 1991, he completed a surgical internship at the University of Toronto, and started residency training in general surgery at U of T in 1992.  During his residency, Dr. Dickie completed a Masters of Science degree, working at the research institutes of the University Health Network and The Hospital for Sick Children.  After general surgical residency and qualifications in 1998, he completed a further residency in thoracic surgery at the University of Toronto in 2000.  He joined the staff of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre in July 2000.

Diana graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1980.  She went on to attend Queen’s University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Physical and Health Education and her Bachelor of Education from McArthur Teachers College in 1985.  She taught music, history, math and physical and health education in both the public and secondary school system.  Diana joined the staff at St. Lawrence College in Kingston and she was promoted as of January '02 to the position of "Student Life Counsellor" overseeing; Peer Advisors, Residence Advisors, Student Government Board and Athletics along with regular day to day academic, career, financial and crisis counselling.  She was chosen “Coach of the Year” in Ontario in 1989-90, 1991-92, 1992-93.  In November of 1992 in Quebec, she was awarded the “Canadian Colleges Coach of the Year” for coaching excellence in Women’s Soccer.  She was the first recipient of this award as well as the first female winner.  Diana has been coach of the Golden Gaels Hockey Team since 1987.  Awarded the “Ontario O.W.I.A.A. Coach of the Year in 1989-90 and then chosen as a guest coach for Team Canada during the Three Nations Cup in the fall of 1997.  At present she is still very involved as an athlete playing Senior A fastball, Women’s and Men’s Mixed Slopitch, “A” Ball Hockey and was a member of the Women’s National Field Lacrosse Squad team from 1980-1990.  In the spring of 1999, Diana was the founder and was inducted into the "St. Lawrence College's Vikings Sport Wall of Fame".

At the College's Annual Athletic Banquet this past April 2002 she was honoured by the College's Registrar and Campus Principal by establishing the "Diana Drury Scholarship Bursary" value of $500.00 which would be awarded beginning this Fall '02 at the Annual Student Recognition Night. The bursary will be awarded to a student athlete who combines both athletic and academic excellence in their sport and in the classroom! 

Bob Dunford graced Kenner Collegiate with his presence from 1961 to 1966.  He attended Peterborough Teachers’ College and subsequently served with the local Board of Education as teacher, vice-principal or principal.  While teaching, Bob obtained his B.A. in History at Trent University and M.Ed. In Administration at Queen’s University.  Bob developed curriculum vitae and presented workshops to colleagues.  He received awards from the Ontario Public School Teachers Federation for developing innovative programmes, and the City of Peterborough’s Civic Award for coaching the Peterborough Falcons, a girl’s floor hockey team, to the first World Floor Hockey championship in Sweden.  Bob dedicated himself to coaching at the house league, inter-school level and all divisions of the Church Hockey league.  He believed in balancing academics with team play.  Volunteering was important to Bob.  He volunteered for Trent University’s Development Fund, CNIB, United Way and March of Dimes.  To Bob, his greatest accomplishment has been raising his children: Jess, Robert and Kate.

Brian Edwards (1977-1981) was involved in his career while attending Kenner C.V.I.  In 1980, at 17, he started Rocklands Entertainment Inc. upon being granted an American Federation of Musicians license - the youngest successful applicant ever in its history!  First engagement booked was the 1980 Kenner Formal featuring Peterborough’s Something Blue. Brian began representing Canadian entertainers including Tommy Hunter, the Leahy Family, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Rita MacNeil and John McDermott.  Rocklands has also promoted concerts with Anne Murray, Roger Whittaker, K.D. Lang, Ian Tyson and Kitty Wells.  The Canadian Country Music Association named him 1992 Booking Agent of the Year; he’s inducted into Peterborough’s Pathway of Fame and is a Kawartha Shriner.  Brian has raised funds for charities such as sick Children’s Hospital, Cancer Society, Peterborough YMCA, Lindsay’s Academy Theatre, and varied Food Banks.  In 2002, he placed in the top 50 Concert Promoters in North America (Pollstar Magazine, Los Angeles, CA.)

Betty, who attended Kenner from 1957 to 1962 is currently Executive Senior Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics.  After graduation, she held a position as an executive secretary with General Motors for several years before becoming an “at home” wife and mother of two sons for ten years.  During that time, she continued her studies at Sheridan College.  She re-entered the working world in 1981 joining Mary Kay Cosmetics and rose to Sales Director within two years.  Her outstanding sales and managerial achievements have been recognized by her firm many times culminating in her appointment as the seventh Canadian Executive Senior Director of the company.  Some of these rewards include a full-length mink coat, a 32-stone diamond ring and 11 cars (including six pink ones).  Her achievements and supportive ways have influenced her colleagues and her family to personal and entrepreneurial success.  She has mentored eight first line and nine second line and three third line directors of the company.  As of June 1st, 2002, she is one of only 10 National Sales Directors for Mary Kay in Canada.  Her biggest reward, however, is offering women an opportunity to be in their own business and become financially independent.  Betty Elliott-Kichler lives in Carlisle, Ontario.

After graduating from the Kenner technical program in 1961, Peter studied Hotel, Resort & Management at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.  Currently, Peter owns and operates Elmhurst Resort’s and Vacation Air, a highly rated vacationing spot that attracts clients from all over North America and Europe.

Peter has been actively involved serving as Chairman of the Rice Lake Tourist Association; Resorts Ontario; Tourism Ontario; and Vice Chairman of the Tourism Association of Canada.  He acted as Founding Chairman of the Peterborough Kawartha Tourism and Convention Bureau; The Ontario Tourism Education Council; and the Canadian Tourism Research Institute.  Peter continues to represent small business concerns and the tourism industry whenever possible.

Chuck Ferguson graduated from Kenner in 1968, then completed a year of post-secondary studies at Sir Sandford Fleming College.  His successful career in the food and catering service industry began in association with Jeff Purvey Ltd., a relationship which lasted twenty seven years developing into a partnership.  In 1994, he founded C.T. Ferguson Catering and Food Services.  As a business man, Chuck particularly enjoys assisting his community’s organizations especially in fundraising.  He is an instructor with the Junior Achievement Organization and chaired the Special Events Committee for the 1992 Kenner 40th Reunion.

After leaving Kenner in 1968, Alan studied Mechanical Engineering at General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. In 1969, after a brief spell with INCO in Sudbury, he joined Controlled Environments Ltd., a Winnipeg based manufacturer of environmental research equipment.  Starting as a Sales Engineer, he became Sales Manager in 1972, responsible for sales world-wide. In 1976, Alan joined Wardrop Engineering Inc., a Winnipeg based multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm in Winnipeg with operations in Canada, U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia, and was assigned to a water project in Ghana, West Africa, and in 1980 joined Reliance Products Ltd. in Winnipeg as its U.S. Sales Manager. In 1982, Alan returned to Wardrop to manage a water supply project in Nigeria.  In 1990, he joined the ownership group of the company, and was appointed Managing Director, International Division in 1994, and Vice-President of Wardrop Holdings in 1996. Alan’s international career has included assignments on World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Canadian International Development Agency financed projects.  He has worked and lived in Ghana, Nigeria Eritrea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.  He specializes in the management of integrated urban and rural infrastructure development of investment strategies, feasibility studies, preparation of projects for international finance, governance, and the design and implementation of water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, and environmental projects.  Alan’s corporate responsibilities include the management of the Wardrop’s international projects, market development, and the management of its foreign subsidiaries in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.

Catherine attended Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute from 1978-1982, during which time, the teaching and administrative staff at Kenner made her feel that she could achieve anything she put her mind to. After completing a B.A., English, and a Bachelor of Education in 1986 through the Queen’s University Program, she began her career as a secondary school English teacher. She went on to be an Assistant English Department Head and was named English Department Head in 1994. In 1998 she became a vice principal at Bowmanville High School and was also VP at Crestwood from 1999 to 2001. In 2001 Catherine completed a Master of Education from O.I.S.E./University of Toronto and was named as Principal of Clarke High School. Additionally, she has held positions of Principal of Adam Scott C.V.I. and Intermediate Schools and Centres for Individual Studies and eLearning. She was named as Superintendent of Education, Student Achievement for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board in 2008.

Her work in education can be characterized by a belief that public education offers a place where everyone has equal access to opportunity. She has worked with staffs and students to create the positive learning environment and enriching experiences she enjoyed at Kenner. She has particularly focused on the needs of marginalized students addressing strategies and programs to re-engage them in school, help them experience success, and to see a future full of possibilities.

Dedicated teachers and a caring staff await those coming through the doors of KCVI.  Academic work did not come easy for Herb, but the teachers prepared him for continuing education.  He secured a technician’s job with CBC.

Herb and his wife, Sue returned to Peterborough when he became a member of the Peterborough Police Department.  During his 32-year career, Herb worked general patrol, scenes of crime, criminal investigation, safety patrol, VIP, police educator, youth officer, youth and adult court co-ordinator.  Herb’s greatest satisfaction was working with youth.

Herb became involved in the Scouting movement and was able to present the opportunity for youth to develop themselves and for adults to share their talents with youth. Besides Scouting, Herb is involved in singing, Peterborough Youth Services, CMHA - Suicide Prevention task force, Roy Studio Collection Restoration, his family and a part-time court job which keep him very busy.

Herb and his wife have been blessed with two sons, Rob and David, daughters-in-law, Heather and Karen, and granddaughter, Abigail.

Following her graduation from the Honours Co-op Math Program at the University of Waterloo in 1979, Pamela began her career at the Head Office of Clarica (formerly Mutual Life), in Waterloo, Ontario, where she is currently the Technology Solutions Consultant. As part of her University program, Pamela spent her first three work terms (1 year) at Beckers Milk in Scarborough.  At Beckers, she assisted in the automation of many business functions including their payroll system.  More recently, Pamela has been accountable as team leader for Clarica’s Y2K effort.  The team’s efforts resulted in Clarica being the first major financial institution to announce Year 2000 compliance in November 1998.  Pamela held a senior role with two of the company’s most important strategic initiatives in its 130 year history - conversion to a stock company and a change in name to Clarica. Pamela is particularly proud of her role as coach and mentor for members of her team.  She has been successful in her chosen career because of her sincere interest in the people who work with her and her life-long commitment to education through on-the-job training.

Don graduated from Kenner in 1967. After working for a while for a graphic arts business as a sign and silk-screen artist, he enrolled, then graduated from Queen's University with a B. A. degree. He went on to direct Quin-Mo-Lac, a summer children's camp operated by the United Church of Canada. Working in the community, in cooperation with kids and youth and families, was a profound influence on his life.

After another attempt as a self-employed graphic artist, producing advertising and displays for most of the major businesses in Peterborough, the lure of community and the call to church work found him enrolled at Emmanuel College in Toronto working toward a Master of Divinity degree.

He was ordained into the United Church of Canada in 1988 and served at a new church development project in Ennismore, and at Knox United Church in Peterborough. He is currently Conference Minister for Program & Leadership Development for the Bay of Quinte Conference of the United Church.

Don has been past District Chaplain of Peterborough District Scouts. For three years he has been involved with a Steering Committee for Children's Programs for kids at risk with the hope of organizing a Boys and Girls Club in Peterborough. He writes and edits "The Circuit Rider", a regional insert in "The Observer", the United Church's national magazine.

Don loves canoeing, camping, painting watercolours and portraits in oils and designing web pages on his Macintosh computer. He has been married to Johanna for 32 years. They have two grown children, Meghan and David who have just graduated and are about to become teachers.

Douglas Goold grew up on Prince Street, where his mother still lives.  He left Kenner in 1964 for McMaster University.  After graduating in Honours History, he completed a Ph.D. at Cambridge University and then taught at three Canadian Universities.  His awards include two Canada Council Fellowships and two Killam post-doctoral Fellowships.  Dr. Goold co-authored "Peace Without Promise", a book on the peace settlements after the First World War.  Switching to journalism, he ran the Edmonton Journal's newsroom and covered Parliament and the Prime Minister in Ottawa.  He is currently a senior editor and columnist with the Globe and Mail.  Dr. Goold appears frequently on CBC television with his commentary on business.

Leora attended Kenner Collegiate from 1973 until 1978. In 1977, she received the Drafting Award.  She went on to Loyalist College and received her diploma in Architectural Drafting in 1980.  Leora worked at HH Angus & Associates Consulting Engineers in Toronto for 10 years, during which time she worked on many major projects, including hospitals, offices, and as a major contributor to the plumbing design of the Skydome. In 1992 Leora started her company, LMG Drafting & Design Inc., employing 25 design and drafting personnel.  In May 1999, Leora was a representative at the US/Canada Trade Summit with Foreign Affairs Minister, Sergio Marchi.   Through this summit, her company has been contracted to provide services to companies in the United States.  Leora earned the Gold Standard of the Duke of Edinburgh Award in 1980. She has been a Guider in Brownie and Guide Units for 10 years. Through her company, she sponsors a team in the Guildwood Softball Association.   Leora is married to Wayne Gratton.  They have three children, Jillian, Amy and Robert.  

Barry Haggarty is a very accomplished musician, songwriter and music producer who has played his guitar with some very famous entertainers including Ronnie Hawkins, Ronnie Prophet and the Family Brown, Shania Twain and he recently worked with Valdy and Natalie McMaster.  Barry was nominated for three years running as Guitar Players of the Year with the Canadian Country Music Association.  In 1991, Barry opened his own recording studio, Haggarty Sound Studio, producing independent artists.  Global Televisions’ Popular Mechanics for Kids used Barry’s studio for voice-overs with one of the young stars Tyler Kyte.  The year 1999 marked a milestone for Barry with the release of his premier CD “Old Days”, a collection of works of the heart.  “Give Me a Break” the first single from “Old Days” has been nationally charted.  In 2003 Barry produced a fundraising compilation CD of various artists to raise money for the Peterborough Humane Society.  Barry and Ed Arnold wrote a song for the Hockeyville contest called “Peterborough is Hockeyville” which aired on CBC TV.  Most recently Barry fulfilled his dream of recording at Abby Road Studio in London, England.  The CD is called “Barry Haggarty Unplugged at Abby Road Studio – If These Wall Could Talk”.  This year Barry was involved with the fundraiser for the Gainey Foundation, performing and forming a house band for the show.  He looks forward to being involved next year.  

Gord Hall graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1959.  He played French horn in the school’s first instrumental music group, founded in 1954, and was a member of several Kenner Rams, football, basketball and wrestling teams. At graduation, he was the winner of the Ole Evinrude Scholarship.  Gord attended Queen’s University, where he graduated with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Mathematics and Physics in 1963.  He was a member of the Queen’s Golden Gaels Football Team in 1962 and awarded an athletic letter.  Qualifying as a member of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries in 1971, he also became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.  Gord is a consultant with senior executive responsibilities in the Toronto office of William M. Mercer Limited, advising corporations on pensions, total compensation, and corporate governance.  Gord is Editor of the Mercer Bulletin (first published by Mill Mercer in 1952), and Editor-in-Chief of the Mercer Pension Manual and The Mercer Handbook.  He is the author of a number of articles on human capital and corporate governance.  Gord is a member of the Board of Trustees of Queen’s University, chairing its Audit Committee, and of the Board of the Institute of Corporate Directors.  He is a former member of an Ontario Government Task Force to Review MPP Compensation, and volunteer meet official for Wim Canada.

Dr. Fred Hamblin graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1962.  He holds a Masters Degree specializing in Local Government and a Doctoral Degree in the development of public policy.

Fred had a successful teaching career at Sir Sandford Fleming College and then served for ten years as Executive Director of the Association of Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario.  He is presently the principal partner of Hamblin and Associates, Management Consultants.  Fred has made many significant contributions in the area of community service including that as an Alderman on Peterborough City Council.

Gail Hancock is a Public Health Nurse with the Peterborough County-City Health Unit and is responsible for the Healthy Sexuality Program.  She is an active Board Member of Planned Parenthood and shares her expertise and support for women of all ages by addressing many groups and community services.  As well, Ms. Hancock manages the Birth Control Centre and has been involved in the Ontario’s Nurses Association for sixteen years.  Through information, role modelling, and guidance, she has helped to empower women in their daily lives; she is a tireless advocate for healthy bodies, minds and souls.

Teresa went to Kenner from 1985 to 1990 and followed up that education by attending Trent University.  During this time she played a number of sports including basketball, badminton, volleyball and softball.  It was slo-pitch that she continued to play after graduation and went on to win titles provincially and nationally.  There was also a passion for helping out when she could.  She was involved with Big Brothers and Sisters as well as serving on the Board for the Canadian Hearing Society.  She took a part in local fundraisers and this is always something that you can count on her to do.  Teresa started working in the food industry at the age of 14 and moved on to Pizza Hut six years later.  It was there that she realized her future would involve restaurants.  After working at Pizza Hut moving up the ranks to Area Manager of three stores, she and her husband Marc purchased the Pizza Huts in Peterborough and Lakefield.  Teresa has been able to continue her efforts in supporting the community by sponsoring many great causes and truly believes that taking an active role in our community is very important.  Teresa and Marc have three children (Peter, Grace and Sarah) and who knows, maybe one day they may be just as proud as her to have been a KENNER RAM!

Sally attended Kenner from 1952 to 1957 where she earned the distinction of being the first President of the Kenner Student Council.  She returned to Kenner as Chairman of the 40th Anniversary reunion.

Sally Hayes has earned respect as a Teacher, Businesswoman, and Public Official.  She has devoted a great deal of time to Public life, serving as City Alderman from 1983 to 1985.  A passionate belief in individual rights and freedom motivated Sally to become a Libertarian Candidate in several Provincial and Federal elections.  She was also the driving force of "HUMBUG", a national campaign to undo forced metrication.  Since 1977, Sally has operated her own office services business in Peterborough.

Wayne Heard graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1960.  He graduated from Queen's University in 1964.  He holds the designation of Certified Human Resources Professional.  He joined the Quaker Oats Company in 1964 and has risen through the ranks to the position of Vice President--Human Resources and Corporate Affairs.  Mr. Heard is active in Community and Volunteer activities.

Julie is a fully-committed humanitarian, environmentalist and secondary school educator (I.E. Weldon). Julie has been involved in humanitarian work in Kenya through CANRAD, building homes for the less fortunate in the Dominican Republic, supporting foreign children through Plan Canada, Make Poverty History and Save Darfur. Closer to home, she has been involved with PARN, creating awareness programs for the Red Cross, collecting winter clothes for Coats for Kids, and food and toy drives for Kawartha Food Source and Kinsmen Club. Her environmental involvement includes supervising students on the Green Team, climbing the CN Tower in support of WWF, volunteering with chimpanzees in Uganda for the Jane Goodall Institute, and volunteering with Earthwatch to examine impacts of tourism on coral reefs. She has been secretary to the board for the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre and helped students to bring in a bag tax and registration for Earth Hour.   Julie has taken her students to over fifteen countries and regional rallies and conferences so they can understand the world from other perspectives. She has had the privilege of coaching seven sports teams in the school and in her community. Her own involvement in sports includes Peterborough Women’s rep soccer and boxing that took her to fight in South Africa in 2004. She has learned to survive with the condition of Type I diabetes and will let nothing stop her from living a busy life as an informed, purposeful and active citizen.

As lead singer of The Continentals and The Fabulous Fugitives, Geoff is considered one of the legends of the golden age of Peterborough Rock and Roll. After graduating from Kenner in 1964 he continued to perform and wrote and recorded the song Magic which received airplay across Canada. In 1967 he moved to Toronto and attended Ryerson where he graduated in Business and Computers. While in Toronto he obtained his commercial pilot’s license, became an aircraft owner and served on the board of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 189.  He also continued his passion for performing as an actor and as a singer-songwriter with Columbia recording artists The Bedtime Story. Returning to Peterborough, Geoff performed in various capacities with local theatre groups and served on the Board of Directors of the Peterborough Theatre Guild (PTG) and Whispers Dinner Theatre. In 1985 he won Best Director at the Eastern Ontario Drama League Festival for The Love Course for the PTG, where two of his plays Family Business and Wild Oats were also performed. Geoff is known for his stellar performance in the 4th Line Theatre production of  Dr. Barnardo’s Children. He was also instrumental in the 2006 Peterborough’s Rock & Roll Roots live show at Showplace. In 2007 he received a Cable Television Star Award for outstanding Lifestyles/Documentary Production of TVCOGECO’s Peterborough’s Rock and Roll Roots, the sales of which benefited music programmes in local high schools. In 2007 Geoff was inducted into Peterborough’s Pathway of Fame.

Ella graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1974.  Upon graduation, Ella held a number of jobs working part-time as a waitress, taxi driver office assistant and factory worker.  In 1984 Elle took on the position of Director of Operations at Rocklands Talent and Management Inc., where she oversaw the production of tours for international stars.  In 1994 she made a career change that would allow her more time at home.  She received Hope Support Worker and Health Care Aide certificates from Georgian College.  Ella secured employment at a nursing home, but after a short time returned to college to pursue a career as a registered nurse.  After two semesters, she decided to take the bridging course and graduated as a Registered Practical Nurse in 1997.  After working as an RPN for several agencies, she decided to return to college to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.  In 2000 she graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College as a Registered Nurse finding employment with the PRHC working part-time as a Mental health Staff nurse and soon after became a full-time Nurse Manager at Case Manor.  In 2001 she was approached and hired as Wellness Coordinator/Director of Care for Rubidge Retirement Residence and in 2010 was promoted to General Manager.

Robert (Rob) Hotston is a native of Peterborough.  He attended both elementary and secondary school in Peterborough, graduating from Kenner Collegiate in 1971.  While at Kenner from 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the Boys’ Athletic Association and the first “Head Boy” of Brock House.  He played both basketball and volleyball for the “Rams”.  He attended Queen’s University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Sociology/Psychology.  He went on to complete a post-graduate degree in Criminology at the University of Ottawa in 1976.  That year, he became the first university graduate employed by the then Peterborough Police Department.  He has served as a police officer in Peterborough for thirty years, working in Community Patrol, Criminal Investigations (Major Crime), Communications, Crime Prevention, Traffic Management, Training and Media Relations.  He was the first police Crime Prevention Officer with the Peterborough Police.  He is a provincially certified applied police trainer in the areas of criminal investigation, domestic violence investigation, advanced patrol and coach officer training, earning a reputation as an innovative trainer, not only locally but provincially and nationally.  He is a member of a number of professional organizations and has instructed in Sir Sanford Fleming’s “Law and Justice Program” as an adjunct professor.  In 2005, he was seconded to the Government of Canada to work for the United Nations’ war crime tribunal in Sierra Leone, The Special Court for Sierra Leone, as a criminal investigator and investigative team leader.  During his tenure, he was responsible for investigating war crimes committed during Sierra Leone’s civil war.

David Hope, (a.k.a. David Kaye) has turned a successful acting, animation and voice-over career into “David Kaye Productions Inc.”  - a full-time voice-over production company providing radio and television branding and imaging to clients around the world.  David still finds the time to appear in many well-known television series which have included “the Outer Limits” and “X-files”, made for TV movies and feature films (yes, that was him in “Happy Gilmore”), and records regularly for many prime time cartoons, including the voice of Professor Charles Xavier on The Kids - Warner Brothers new Saturday morning cartoon, “X-Men: Evolution.” David was - and actually thinks he really is - Megatron, the evil Predacons from Fox’s “Beastwars: Transformers” series.  David continues to travel between New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver recording radio and television commercials for clients throughout North America as well as appearing in some of them.  Most recently, David finished work on the second of two Star Trek audio books in Los Angeles for Simon and Schuster Publishing, New York.  David has been married to his Kenner high school sweetheart Maria (DiMaria) for 15 years, and they are the parents of two beautiful children.  They reside in West Vancouver and David says “we’ve fallen in love with the mountains, and my lust for skiing their powder will more than likely keep us on the coast - but it’s always great to get back home to Peterborough to see family and renew old friendships.”

Verne was born in Peterborough and has been a percussionist since high school days at Kenner where he was first introduced to band music through the Kenner Band and conductors Vogt, Hambourg and Darch.  At Kenner, he played drums in the popular Dixieland Five group as well as the Kenner Cadet Corp.  During the late 1950's and early 1960's, Verne played the drums with the “Sonics”, Peterborough’s first Rock & Roll band to appear on American TV.  This popular band played at all area dance pavilions.  Three concerts at Showplace brought the group together again after 45 years.  The “Sonics” have been honoured by the City of Peterborough and are now on Peterborough’s Pathway of Fame.  Verne married Linda (Reid), whom he met at Kenner during their high school days and they have two children, David and Krista, and five grandchildren.  Verne is very proud of the fact that his son David was previously selected for the Hall of Honour making them the first father and son with that distinction.  Verne has been a part of the Peterborough music scene for many years and continues to play the drums with local jazz, pop and classical groups and is a regular in the orchestra for Peterborough Theatre Guild as well as St. James Players.  Verne is currently Music Director of the Lakefield Jazz Festival, percussionist with the Peterborough Concert Band as well as the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra.  On many occasions, Verne has enjoyed giving workshops on percussion to various school music programs.  Verne’s favourite saying is “Music is My Life”.

While at Kenner, Andy won the Kenneth Wass memorial Trophy as the top junior athlete and the Key Club International award.  Following Kenner, Andy obtained the professional Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and the Registered Financial Planner (R.F.P.) designations.  He pursued a career in Finance and senior management in government and the private sector, across Canada and internationally, including Management positions with General Electric, Sir Sandford Fleming College, Carleton Board of Education, City Manager, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.  He then joined the Government of Yukon, in Whitehorse, serving as Deputy Minister, Government Services and Deputy Minister, Finance.  Subsequently, he accepted a three-year posting in Europe as Alberta’s Director of International Affairs.  Returning to Peterborough in 1984, Andy became a private sector entrepreneur, owning and operating several companies.  For five years Andy was a Personal Financial Planner with Investors’ Group.  In 2000, Andy served as Deputy Minister, Health and Social Services for Nunavut.  Then he relocated to Alberta as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Health and Wellness Department.

Andy is now enjoying his semi-retirement in Peterborough!

Robert was born in Peterborough in 1940 and grew up in the King-Monaghan area.  He attended Prince of Wales school and then Kenner from 1953 to 1958.  He was awarded the Evinrude scholarship (for Peterborough) and a Union Carbide scholarship to attend McMaster University.  With an honours degree in mathematics and physics, he proceeded in 1962 to graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  There he completed the degrees MS and PhD (1967) in mathematical physics; his thesis was in theoretical nuclear physics.  After a post-doctoral fellowship at McMaster, he went to Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston as a research associate.  He joined the faculty there in 1971 and is now a full professor in the department of mathematics and computer science.  He remembers some excellent teachers who set high standards for their students and has tried to do the same during 30 years of teaching at RMC.  His present research is in theoretical condensed matter physics, particularly molecular dynamics simulations of liquids.

Mike attended Kenner from 1966-1970, graduating in 1970.  During his years at Kenner, he was involved in the Track and Field, and Hockey teams.  After finishing two years at Sir Sandford Fleming College, he started his career at the A & P Food Store.  In 1972 he worked in a small volume store as a stock clerk.  Eventually, he was promoted to Assistant Manager being trained in all departments.  Mike was soon offered a Co-Manager’s Position, working in a larger volume store.  Presently, Mike is the manager of one of the largest volume stores in the A & P chain, which employs a full-time staff of 130, in the Portage Place Mall in Peterborough.  Mike has been in management for the past fifteen years now and finds it challenging and rewarding.

Gary Kidd graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1971 after taking part in many exchanges and competitions.  The highlight of his secondary school music career was winning the clarinet open competition in the Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival.

Gary received his degree in 1975 from the University of Toronto and began his professional career with the Hamilton Philharmonic.  He was guest soloist with the Peterborough Philharmonic in 1975.  Since 1985 Gary has freelanced with the Canadian Opera Company, the National Ballet and the Stratford Festival Orchestras.

Born in Peterborough and educated at Kenner Collegiate, Ken showed a keen interest in the school music program.  He continued his studies on the trumpet, his principal instrument, and subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Band in Ottawa in 1965.  In 1980, Ken completed the Director of Music course at the Canadian Forces School of Music and was commissioned to his present rank in 1987.  In January 1989, he was appointed Commanding Officer and Director of Music of the Royal Canadian Regiment Band, CFB Gagetown, and New Brunswick.

Judy was born and grew up in Peterborough.  She went to Keith Wightman Public School and then attended Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute, graduating in 1983.  Judy went on to study at McMaster University and graduated as a physiotherapist.

She has greatly enjoyed working as a physiotherapist in a diversity of roles. She has worked in hospitals in Hamilton and Ottawa.  She has been asked to teach in Physiotherapy programs in the United States, Ukraine and Canada including teaching at Dalhousie University, McGill University and the University of Ottawa.  She has been fortunate to be an invited speaker on topics such as healthcare communication, literacy and health, and patient education at universities, national and international conferences in Canada, USA and in Europe, including a national CBC radio interview.  Judy has a Master’s of Health Sciences degree from McMaster and is presently finishing her PhD degree from the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa, working within her research interest in literacy and health.  She has had the privilege to travel, often with her wonderful sister Janice, to all parts of the world such as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, Red Square in Moscow, and the Great Wall of China.  Judy has been able to do all of these things because of the love and support of her friends and most importantly from her one in a million family, her parents, Josephine and Les King and her fantastic sister Janice.

Barbara attended Kenner in its first year, 1952, and graduated from P.C.V.S.  She worked at Bell Canada and then Outboard Marine.  In 1960, she moved to the United States and started flying as a stewardess with United Airlines.  In 1964, Barbara transferred to a ground position as a ticket agent because married women were not allowed to fly.  She found sexism a barrier in work rules and assignments and challenged the traditional role of women in the airlines and became the first female passenger planner at United.  She lobbied for women to be able to check bags and drive jetways, tasks that allowed men to be higher paid.

A divorce and changes in civil rights laws prompted Barbara to return to flying in 1972.  She was soon promoted to In-flight Service Supervisor on board the new Boeing 747's, then to Manager of Instructors at United’s Chicago Stewardess Training Centre.  In the mid 70's, she became an Administrative Supervisor of Flight Attendants at JFK Airport in New York.  In 1990, she retired from United after thirty years.

Since then, she has been the President of the American Cancer Society-Garden City Long Island Unit, named Volunteer of the Year and on the Board for seven years.  Barbara attended Adelphi University, Garden City, Long Island and is a botanical artist.  She married Ron Koprowski in 1978 and lives in Ridgefield, CT.

Born and raised in Peterborough, Karen attended Kenner C.V.I. where she was a member of the basketball, volleyball and track and field teams.  As a young person, she was always interested in the field of engineering. Karen graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.  After moving to Calgary, Alberta, she was able to fulfil a life-long goal of attaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil engineering.  Strong mentorship along the way, has given her an undying love for knowledge and personal growth that has become the foundation of her inspiration.

Karen has had the honour of representing Canada as a hockey referee at numerous national and international competitions.  She has dedicated much of her time to coaching and teaching Canada’s young athletes.  Her chosen career path has led her to Edmonton, Alberta, where she is the Engineer responsible for all construction at the University of Alberta Hospital.

Karen is leading a life for which she has a great deal of passion.  This passion was developed through strong family values, education, life within sports and her infinity to be the best she can be.  She accepts this honour with gratitude and excitement while knowing that she will continue to do her best to manage, enjoy, enrich, protect and preserve life, because when she does that, life is fun.

Rick  Krug graduated from Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute in 1959.  Rick continued his education at Queens University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.  Rick joined General Electric in 1965 and graduated from the financial training program in 1969.  He progressed through General Electrics Management program holding senior positions in strategic planning, marketing and finance in operations in Peterborough, Barrie, Guelph and Toronto. Rick joined Square D Corporation in 1987 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was promoted to Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for all of Groupe Schneider Canadian Operations including Square D, Federal Pioneer Ltd. and Telemecanique.

In 1993 Rick joined Milltronics Ltd. in Peterborough as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and was also responsible for the Business Development activities focusing on acquisitions of businesses in Canada, Netherlands, Germany, U.S.A. and Australia.  He retired from Milltronics in 2001.Currently, Ricks business activities include Board of Director with Peterborough Partnership Group and Accured Inc.

Currently, Ricks community activities include Kenner Collegiate Foundation, Peterborough Health Centre - Board of Directors, Trent     University - Board of Governors and the Greater Peterborough Area DNA Cluster Development Corporation as Director.

Elaine (Martin) McCarthy and Bonnie Kubica set up BE Catering business in 1998 – a successful business in downtown Peterborough, now one of the oldest businesses on Hunter Street. Bonnie was a graduate of Kenner in 1988 with a Fine Arts Degree from Ottawa University and also a graduate of Stratford Chefs School. Bonnie tree planted and cooked for tree planters in Northern Ontario and British Columbia. She was a chief cook for restaurants in the west and in Ontario before starting BE Catering. Both her grandmothers were in the cooking industry before her. Grandmother Kubica was very well-known as a pie supplier to Peterborough restaurants such as Jeff Purvey’s for years.  Elaine was a graduate of Kenner in 1992, she tried College but decided that tree planting and cooking suited her better. She travelled across Canada and the United States and spent two years in Mexico working at an avocado and blackberry farm. Upon returning to Peterborough she knew that she did not want to work for anyone else, so BE Catering was created. She married Peter McCarthy, Kenner graduate, in 1999. They have two daughters that are being raised close to the kitchen of BE Catering.  BE Catering supports many community programs: The Youth Emergency Shelter, Crossroads, YWCA, Festival of Lights, Hospice, PARN and United Way. They are strong supporters of Kawartha Choice Program.

Since leaving high school, Sandra has pursued both enhanced educational pursuits in the field of human services and a public service career devoted to public administration of human service delivery programs.  As of March 1999, she is the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Community and Social Services.  From 1993 to 1995, she was the Assistant Deputy Attorney-General for the Courts Administration Division.  For fifteen years prior to her appointment at the Attorney General Ministry, Sandra served the Ministry of Community and Social Services in a number of capacities, including Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations Division; Executive Director, Strategic Planning and Intergovernmental Relations; and Executive Director, Community Services Division.

Sandra’s academic background includes the following: Social Service Diploma - Ryerson; B. A. in Psychology - University of Winnipeg; Masters in Applied Criminology - University of Ottawa.

Grant graduated from Kenner C.V.I. in June 1961 and immediately commenced a 16-year career with the Bank of Nova Scotia.  After Branch Manager and Corporate Office positions, Grant embarked on a second career in August 1977 as an Associate Dealer with Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd.  After owning stores in Stouffville and Downsview, Ontario between 1977 and 1995, Grant returned to Peterborough in February 1995 as Associate Dealer of the Peterborough store.  In April 1999 he and his staff moved the store from 230 George Street to the new site at 1200 Lansdowne Street, which now employs approximately 180 full and part-time personnel.

Grant and his company have had a desire and realize the need to be involved in the community.  The Festival of Lights, Festival of Trees, Peterborough Showplace, Heart Catheter Fund, The New Regional Hospital, United Way and Easter Seals are organizations that they have been pleased to help support.  As well, Brock Mission and Cameron House are provided support through the Canadian Tire Foundation for Families and the employees of the store.

Steve Larmer played junior hockey with distinction leaving Kenner and Peterborough to continue his hockey apprenticeship with Niagara Falls.  He graduated to Moncton in the American Hockey League the year in which the team won the Calder Cup.  He won rookie of the year award in 1982, his start to an eleven-year career with the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL and was a member of the New York Rangers during the Stanley Cup triumph in 1994.  He has played for Canada in the 1991 World Championships and the Canada Cup and has been a member of two all-star teams.  During his hockey career, he scored 441 goals and assisted 571 times for a point total of 1,012.  During his career, Steve has contributed his time to help community organizations in their fundraising efforts.  Steve and his wife Rose have a daughter, Bailey.

Barry Larock, also known as “Rocko” and “Rocky”, had a charming personality, a winning smile, a zest for life, and an effortless ability to make friends wherever he went. But he was not like most of us; Barry faced life’s challenges head-on and never backed down. He was an inspiration and role model to both young and old.  Barry Gordon John Larock was born March 26, 1965, in Peterborough to Pat and Lorraine Larock, their fourth child, a brother to Beth, Blaine and Blair. He was considered a “miracle baby” as he was born with a heart defect known as ‘tetralogy of fallot’. Barry endured four open-heart surgeries in his childhood and one as an adult; however, his health issues never hindered his goals in life.  Barry’s passion and dedication for sport began at an early age by playing both minor lacrosse and hockey within the community. He continued to embrace his love of sport during his high school years at Kenner and while attending college. This love continued as he became actively involved in the local, provincial and national lacrosse and minor hockey communities including the Ontario Winter Games and the Canada Games. His professional career included working with the Colorado Mammoth, Edmonton Rush, Chicago Shamrox, and Toronto Rock in the National Lacrosse League. Barry has also been fortunate to be part of two Peterborough Lakers Mann Cup Championship teams in 2006 and 2007. As a player, coach, manager, executive member, volunteer, and journalist, Barry has brought enthusiasm, courage and humour. He can teach all of us important life lessons but most importantly, how to meet life’s challenges - with dedication, perseverance, passion, and strength. On June 21, 2010, Barry lost his courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind heavy hearts but most notably: his wife Jennifer and his son Trent. Barry will be forever missed, but always remembered.

Douglas J. Lawson is a graduate of K.C.V.I. and the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.  He joined Kinney Canada Inc. in 1970 as Assistant Controller.  He rose through the ranks to become President of Kinney Canada.  In 1982 he became the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of F.W. Woolworth Co. Limited (Canada) and of Kinney (Canada) as well as a Director of Kinney Shoe Corporation (U.S.A.).  Mr. Lawson owns and operates a standardbred racing stable.

A student body walkout led by Student Council President Jeff Leal sparked an interest in public service for Jeff that would evolve over many years to come.  After graduating from Trent University and the University of Windsor, Jeff set his sights on municipal politics and he successfully ran on Otonabee Ward in 1985.  At the time of his induction into the Kenner Hall of Honour, Jeff has retained his seat on Council for four consecutive elections, earning the privilege of being selected as one of the Deputy Mayors of the City of Peterborough.    

Throughout his political career, Jeff’s main objective was to serve his constituents.  To be effective to this end, Jeff believed in gaining knowledge and experience by participating on numerous, diverse committees.  A few of these committees include St. Joseph’s Hospital Board; Social Services, Economic Development Committee; Evinrude Centre Building Committee; and Peterborough Green-up.  Jeff has also actively volunteered for a multitude of community organizations.  In serving the people of Peterborough, Jeff worked at Queen’s Park as the Central Ontario Caucus Coordinator in the Office of the Premier, Special Assistant to the Minister of Tourism and Recreation, and Executive Assistant to the Member of the Legislature for the riding of Frontenac-Addington.

Jeff and his wife, Karen, have two children, Braden and Shanae.

Karen D. Logan graduated from Kenner in 1967 and then studied at Queen's University in Kingston.  In 1971 she was awarded an Honours B.A. with First Class Honours in history and the University Medal.  She received an M.A. from Queen's in 1972 and completed studies for a D.Phil. from Oxford in 1976.  After a year as a Killam Post-doctoral scholar, Dr. Logan joined the Public Service of Canada, where she has held various positions including Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry on War Criminals.  She is presently employed in the Privy Council Office.

Helene Lowry is Vice President and Director of Operations and Media for the Quarto Group, a Peterborough based advertising agency which she co-owns.  The company currently serves businesses throughout southern Ontario.  Helene began her career after graduating from Kenner in 1964 as Promotions Assistant at Clarke Irwin Publishers in Toronto but returned to Peterborough in 1970 to work in advertising at Sears, Eaton’s and Kawartha TV & Stereo.  In 1989, she and two partners formed The Quarto Group which has enjoyed a dynamic growth currently counting as clients Johnson & Johnson Medical Products, Pan-Osten and Lafa Laval Agri.  Her success, she advises, comes from the two most important traits anyone entering business should have: courage and an openness to learn new things.

Helene finds refuge from the business world at her home on Pigeon Lake which she shares with her husband, Dennis, daughter Cailin and cat Jenny.  Reading and gardening are her favourite activities.  Her community involvement includes serving on the United Way campaign and board as executive director of the YMCA.

In the fall of 1978, following graduation from Kenner Collegiate, Darlene began her Medical Career in Medical Laboratory Technology at the Toronto Institute of Medical Technology.  She received her certification in October 1980.  She continued her education at McMaster University in Hamilton where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1983.  She received her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1987.  She completed her internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto in 1988.  Dr. Lunn returned to Peterborough where she began her career practising Family Medicine.

After graduation in 1967, Stephanie attended Wilfred Laurier University before entering Peterborough Teacher’s College.  She graduated with the top award for excellence as a student teacher.  Her classroom in Peterborough County elementary schools became a “lighthouse”, a place for modelling innovative methodologies for other teachers.  She was granted a special commendation from the Police Association for her work with curriculum for grade six students dealing with drug education, vandalism and peer pressure.  She was appointed Program Consultant of Primary/Junior education for five years during which she was recognized provincially as an expert in Co-operative Education and Peer Coaching.  Stephanie was appointed to the role of Principal in September 1994.  During this time she completed an M.Ed. from York University.  Stephanie continues to serve her community as an executive of Block Parents and is on the Board of Directors of C.M.H.A. and Fourcast Addiction Services.

Chris MacGee graduated from Kenner in 1970.  He went to the University of Waterloo until 1972 and later that year he changed Universities, attending the University of Guelph (Fine Arts).  He graduated in 1974.  He took over as Director of the Mackenzie Gallery at Trent University in 1980 and continued until the closing in 1986.  Chris joined the local Screenprinting and Graphic Design Group known as Ground Zero which he and his partner, Margaret Stewart, now own.  He has exhibited his Artwork in Paris, France, London, England, and throughout Ontario.

Dick Malowney is a graduate of Kenner Collegiate (1968), Peterborough Teacher's College, Trent University and O.I.S.E., (Master of Education Degree in Education Administration).  In 1969, after graduating as an Elementary School Teacher, he was employed by the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education.  In addition to his ever more responsible positions with the Board, he directed professional courses at Trent, Queen's, Guelph and York Universities.  In 1980 he became Director of Education for his Board.  Dick Malowney has said, "I certainly believe that all associated with K.C.V.I. over its many years of history have much of which they can be justly proud".

Mark was employed by C & T Tool and Machine at the age of fifteen while attending high school at Kenner C.V.I.  Hard work, an intuitive mind, and a genuine interest in the tool and die industry paved his way to an apprenticeship with C & T immediately upon graduation from Kenner in 1982.  Mark completed his apprenticeship in 1986 and was gainfully employed by C & T as a journeyman.  In 1993 Mark moved on to another shop in Bowmanville, to challenge his abilities and further his career.  In 1996 Mark returned to C & T Tool as Manager.  He introduced fresh ideas for the company and displayed his newly adapted computer programming abilities to his associates.  Mark became a partner of C & T Tool in 1997.  On November 1st, 2000 Mark launched ALP Tool & Technology with two partners.  Mark and his wife Kathy live in Millbrook with their two children, Allison and Benjamin.

Douglas McDougall graduated from Kenner in 1975.  In 1980 Doug earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario.  He began his teaching career at Bluevale Collegiate Institute in Waterloo.  During this time he completed a Masters of Education degree at the University of Toronto while working as a Mathematics Consultant & Assistant Head of Mathematics.  In 1989 Doug was hired as Head of Mathematics at Upper Canada College Prep School in Toronto where he completed his Principal’s Qualification courses and a doctorate degree.  In 1997 he joined the University of Toronto.  Currently, Doug is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT).  He teaches graduate and pre-service courses in mathematics education and computer applications in education.  He is also a Program Head of the two-year Master of Teaching Program at OISE/UT.  He is co-author of a book “Mathematics Every Elementary Teacher Should Know” and is active in professional organizations related to his research interests in Canada, Greece and Cuba.  Doug fondly remembers the encouragement and support of his teachers at Kenner.  The social and intellectual environment that he experienced here, provided him with the strong foundation he needed to pursue his interests in the field of education.

David McKinstry attended Kenner from 1968 to 1973.  After earning a Physical Education degree at U of T, he completed four years of sciences at UBC and an MBA while in Vancouver.  David exhibited fine leadership skills while at Kenner, which he accredits to his peers and teachers, and which proved useful in his career. David swam competitively provincially, nationally, and internationally, setting numerous records.  After swimming Varsity at U of T, David followed his dream to be the fastest man to swim across Lake Ontario in 1978.  Unfortunately, after 11.5 hours of continuous swimming, two hours ahead of the existing record and only a few miles from the finish line at Ontario Place, he became hypothermic and was pulled unconscious from the water.  The old adage “Resist boredom, be Challenged, and embrace Change” became his mantra. David has held many different occupations including a Cruise Director and Head of Hospitality on an Alaskan ship, a teacher, a National Director of Sales for CN Hotels, an entrepreneur owning Woodhaven Country Lodge on Sandy Lake, a parent, and three times published author.   His proudest moment since leaving Kenner was seeing the end of a personal political/social struggle, spanning 20 years, to change Canadian laws to allow gay people the right to adopt children.  In 1998 David and his husband Michael Rattenbury, also a Kenner graduate, became the proud parents of two sons and became the first gay couple to legally adopt children in Canada, putting two more Kenner grads into Canadian history books!

Dr. McMillan graduated from Kenner C.V.I. in 1990.  He completed a B.S.C.H. and M.SC. in the Department of Biology at Queen’s University.  His studies in biology were interrupted by a backpacking trip through south-east Africa during which time he decided to pursue a career in medicine.  He completed his M.D. at McMaster University Medical Centre, where he also completed residency training in pediatric medicine.  He completed a second residency in child neurology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (University of Ottawa) followed by a neuromuscular fellowship at the Lahey Clinic (Tuft’s University) and Children’s Hospital Boston (Harvard University).  He presently works as a Pediatric Neurologist and Neuromuscular specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.  His main area of clinical practice and research is with children living with neuromuscular diseases.  He provides training to medical students and residents at the University of Ottawa.  Twice a year, as part of his work, Dr. McMillan travels north to provide neurology outreach clinics in Iqaluit, Nunavut.  He has written book chapters and published more than 20 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.  He is a member of the scientific advisory board of |Muscular Dystrophy Canada and serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals.  He enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors, hiking, canoeing and cross-country skiing.

Upon graduation from Kenner CVI in 1979, and with the urging of her English teachers who encouraged her writing, Lorie McRae embarked on journalism studies at Carleton University in Ottawa.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Mass Communications, in 1982.  The next three years were spent in writing and editing positions in Ottawa before her move to Toronto.  In 1986, she obtained her first position at York University, Canada’s third-largest university, as a publications coordinator.  From 1986 to 1992, Lorie’s career focussed on writing and editing a variety of University publications.  Beginning in 1992, she moved into policy writing, academic support and student service management, holding the title of Associate Registrar.  By 1999, her position of Associate Registrar (Policy/Administration) included management of a team of 26 individuals, responsible for publications, academic support policy and implementation, and student service, for a University population of approximately 44,000 students.  Currently, thanks to a one-year leave of absence generously granted by York University, Lorie is enjoying her three small children.  She, her husband, Len, and the three girls, reside in Maple, Ontario, just north of Toronto.

Dan graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1969.  After graduation, he worked very successfully as a salesman for Borden Dairy and later became an Area Manager in Hamilton.  In 1976 Dan, with his brothers, James, John and Michael (all Kenner students) purchased McWilliams Cartage from their father and have made it the industry leader that it is today.

The Peterborough community has been good to the McWilliams clan.  Dan has determined to put something back into the community.  He is particularly proud of his work with Ducks Unlimited and the Peterborough Rotary Club.  He is also either a sponsor or a patron of Arbor Theatre, Peterborough Art Gallery, Marycrest Home for the Aged, Peterborough Lacrosse Club, P.M.H.A., Civic Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and many charitable organizations.

Dave was born in Manchester, England in 1947 and moved with his family to Peterborough in 1952.  He attended Kenner C.V.I. and graduated as the class Valedictorian in 1969.  Dave was awarded the McAllister Scholarship to attend the University of Toronto, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.  In 1969 Mills married a fellow graduate of Kenner – Judy – and they have three children, Jeff, Jennifer and Jon.  Following graduating from the University of Toronto, Dave joined Ontario Hydro, working with the Utility until 1997.  While at Ontario Hydro, Mills held a number of senior positions in the Nuclear and Regions Branches.  When Mills left Ontario Hydro he was able to turn his passion for golf into a second career when he accepted the position of Executive Director at the Ontario Golf Association.  He had been a volunteer with the Association since 1985. Serving on the Board of Directors and chairing the Provincial Junior Development Program.  During Mill’s time as the Executive Director, the Ontario Golf Association has undergone many changes including an amalgamation with the Ontario Ladies Golf Association in 2011 to create the Golf Association of Ontario – an Amateur Golf Association that is one of the largest in North America.  Mills was inducted into the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame in 2010, in recognition of his contributions to golf across the Province and in the Belleville area.

Allan graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1959.  He was active in sports and was president of the Hi-Y council.  His interest in All-Star Hockey continued into University, where he played at the semi-pro level.  Allan graduated from George Williams College (University of Chicago) in 1963 and joined the Y.M.C.A. of Hamilton.  He has worked in many Y's cross the country in ever more responsible positions.  Allan is presently the Chief Executive Officer of the London, Ontario YMCA-YWCA.

After graduating with honours from Kenner Collegiate, Don completed three years towards a Bachelor of Science Degree at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.  Since 2004, Don has been the Assistant Director of Facility Programs STAR (Serving the American Rinks).  STAR is part of the US Figure skating and the USA Hockey, the skating National Governing Bodies and part of the USOC.  It is a membership organization which offers Professional Certifications in Rink Operations and Management.  The Canadian partner is the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association.  In January 2006, Don was the Lead Ice Technician for the US Figure Skating Nationals at St. Louis, MO and in February 2006 was the responsible for the installation, maintenance and operations of the four rinks used for all ice hockey during the Olympic Games where he was personally responsible for ice preparation and ice resurfacing during all of the games.  As well as preparing and managing all the technical aspects of maintaining world calibre ice rinks, Don has spent many hours as a National and World Hockey Official.

After leaving Kenner, Ms. Moffat worked in Peterborough at the Bell Telephone Company; she then married and had three children in four years.  Her husband’s work transferred the family to the U.S., where in a short time, Ms. Moffat became a single parent of three, without marketable skills, money or support system.

Ms. Moffat returned to the University of Wisconsin earning her B.A., magna cum laude, completing a four-year program in three years and was inducted into the National Honor Society for Foreign Languages.  She briefly taught in Illinois and Wisconsin.

After remarriage and a fourth child, Ms. Moffat earned her J.D. at Northern Illinois University, College of Law winning the Book Award for Family Law.  Upon graduating and passing the Illinois Bar, she worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney before going into private practice specializing in Family Law.  She participated in the Steering committees for Mediation and Arbitration, training in both disciplines and incorporating them into her practice.  As a practising attorney, she had membership in a variety of professional organizations for law, mediation and arbitration.  In her community, Ms. Moffat served on the Board of the YWCA and in numerous executive positions in her church.

Born and raised in Peterborough’s south end, Barbara attended Kenner Collegiate from 1974 – 1979 and graduated with honours as both Valedictorian and an Ontario Scholar.  She continued her post-secondary education at The University of Western Ontario (1979 - 1983) and received an Honours Bachelor of Music Degree in Education, majoring in Voice, as well as a Bachelor of Education from The University of Toronto (1984).  Barbara returned to Peterborough, and to Kenner, in 1984 and began a 26-year teaching career.  As an experienced singer, songwriter, arranger, performer, director, and teacher, Barbara has made this community her home and a place to share her love of music.  Throughout her years at Kenner she inspired the lives of countless students, teaching both instrumental and choral music, English and French.  Highlights of her years at Kenner include directing the Kenner Concert Band and Choir, organizing many music trips in Canada and the United States, including participating in a Festival at Sea to the Bahamas and being the musical director of five wonderful musicals.  Barbara retired from teaching in June 2011, yet she continues to make music the focus of her life.  She is the director and founder of The Peterborough Pop Ensemble, a professional soloist, arranger, and composer, and a private vocal instructor.  Barbara has been awarded two honours in 2012.  She was inducted to The Peterborough Pathway of Fame in September and is now most honoured to be a member of Kenner’s Wall of Honour.  

Since leaving Kenner Collegiate (1974) and while in another occupation, Warren has developed his hobby of astronomy.  Warren had observed the behaviour of several hundred stars that vary in brightness, submitting observations for publication by the American Association of Variable Star Observers.

In 1978, he discovered a nova for which he received the Nova Award (AAVSO) and the Chilton Prize (Royal Astronomical Society of Canada).  He found another stellar explosion in 1985.  He was awarded the Chant Medal (RASC) in 1986, which recognized his contributions to astronomy in Canada.

Christine Mowat attended Kenner during the 1960's inspired by her studies in English to pursue a life-long interest in literacy.  After her undergraduate degree from Queen’s University in Philosophy and English, she completed an MA focussed on the writing process.  Ms. Mowat has taught English to adults in England, Kenya and Canada.  She has instructed at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Management Executive Program and the Banff Center for Management and the University of Alberta.  She is the author of many publications promoting improvement in language use by business, government, science, law and university academics.  In 1980, she started Wordsmith Associates, a successful enterprise, which has conducted workshops for over 16,000 participants and operates in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.  Ms. Mowat speaks regularly at conferences and has been a director on several community boards.  She is married and the mother of three daughters.

Shirley Musclow graduated from Kenner Collegiate Vocational Institute in 1983.  She continued her education at Sir Sandford Fleming College and graduated with a Diploma in Nursing in 1986.  Shirley worked at various hospitals across the province in several different speciality areas such as critical care, clinical research, and teaching.  She furthered her academic career by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Toronto.  Shirley completed this degree in 1996 while leading the development of the first pain management program for patients after surgery at the former Peterborough Civic Hospital (PCH).  Aspiring to obtain a graduate education from the University of Toronto, Shirley achieved a Masters of Nursing degree in 2001 with an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) specialization.The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) pursued

Shirley in 1998 to work as a Clinical Coordinator in the development of a pain management program and subsequently became the first Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at TSH.  She was recognized and awarded the Canadian Pain Society Nursing Research and Education Grant in 1997.  Shirley published her research in March of 2002.

In addition to her work at TSH, Shirley’s career schedule includes numerous presentations to healthcare professionals, college and university students, and patients.  She has mentored two recipients of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario’s Fellowship program and she has a clinical cross-appointment with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Nursing.  Shirley also volunteers her time and expertise to the Sherbourne Health Care Centres Healthbus for the homeless in downtown Toronto.

Christa was born in Peterborough and graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1979.  She received her B.A. and her B.Ed. from Queen's University in 1983.  She taught for "two long years" before she opted for a career change and joined the Canadian Armed Forces.  Christa believes it to be a career that is "second to none".

Captain Myers in an Air Force Logistics Officer.  She has travelled extensively in line with her postings and her many varied duties in the service.

Kirk graduated in 1991. At Kenner he played football, basketball and rugby.   He attended Loyalist College, completing a diploma in Television Broadcasting graduating in 1994.  Kirk has worked in television news shops from coast to coast and for every major commercial news outlet in Canada, small markets, major markets and national programs.  He also free-lanced for NFL Films, filming football highlights in Detroit.  Kirk has a passion for visual storytelling and his dedication and passion has lead him to use all the latest creative tools available and he has made a name for himself as one of Canada's Premiere Cinematographers having won numerous awards.  Highlights of his career include winning a Gemini Award and an international RTDNA Creative Use of Video Award given in New York City.  Kirk also has been the only person in Canada to have won the Hugh Haugland Creative Use Of Video Award three years in a row. He is Nikon’s Brand Ambassador for Video and has pioneered new shooting techniques with Nikon DSLR's for Global Television’s National Current Affairs program 16x9-changing the way Global does television.  Kirk also travels nationally for Nikon as their featured spokesperson.  Nikon produced a video campaign for the new D800 that was released spring of 2012 called "One Camera Two Perspectives" where Kirk was the featured Cinematographer.  For this camera, the D800, Kirk implemented the Audio Features.  As mentioned above he has pioneered the look of the show, which has taken him to many different countries allowing him to tell the story of amazing people who have had so many challenges and successes in their lives.  One of those places was Haiti, a year after the earthquake, with all the destruction still visible.

Dave Nichols graduated in 1958.  A gold "K", Dave became a Chartered Accountant and completed the Business Training program at Canadian General Electric.  He was very active in the local community and was Reeve in Smith Township, Treasurer of the Board of Governors of Civic Hospital and one of the first chairmen of the Greater Peterborough Economic Council.

At fifty Dave was the President of Alfa Laval U.S. and Chairman of 23 subsidiary Companies.  He retired, after 25 years of corporate life to pursue a career in New York City as an independent consultant.

Dr Anne Nothof (Darby) graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1962 and has her honours B.A. from Queen's University.

Her subsequent studies were at the University of Alberta and she was granted her MA. and PhD from that institution.  Since 1980 she has been a professor of English at Athabasca University in Alberta.  She also hosts a weekly radio program on Drama.  With three daughters and an active lifestyle she still has time to remember Mrs Heideman's "Dead Poet Society".

Grant graduated from the four-year Technical Program at Kenner in 1964. Upon graduation, Grant completed the General Electric four-year Apprenticeship Program majoring in Drafting with the Electrical Distribution and Control Business. Opportunities were presented to further his working career and he was promoted to an Engineering Assistant. Realizing additional promotions required further education, he attended Night School at Sir Sandford Fleming College completing 38 courses to become a Mechanical Technologist. This lead to a promotion in marketing. After eight years he moved to the role of Manager of Customer Service with responsibilities of Logistics and Customs, a position he held for 24 years.  Grant was Co-Chairman of the Playground Committee for Otonabee Valley P.S., arranging financing for the $145,000 playground project which included a soccer field and a baseball diamond.  Three daughters enabled Grant the opportunity to coach the “girls” in Church League Softball and the Arborough Games. As the girls matured, Grant went on to coach ladies fastball and ladies slo-pitch. Grant also served for eight years on the GE Social and Athletic Committee, two years of which he was president.  He remains active in sports and activities, still competing in slo-pitch after having played fastball, soccer and hockey. He has recently retired from General Electric – Electrical Distribution and Control Business after 42 years. Grant and his wife of 38 years, Lynn, reside in Peterborough.

Don and Lesley Parnell live, work and volunteer in Peterborough.  They met at Kenner, were married in 1982 and have five children who do or will attend Kenner.

Volunteering for the community has been part of their lives together since high school as fund-raisers for the Kenner tennis courts.  Some other activities over the years include Canats 84, Holly Days, CAPIC.  They have taken roles at Grove School, particularly in fundraising for playground equipment and school beautification.  In 1989 they started the Peterborough Victoria Day Fireworks which has grown to be a huge community event.  Don is also very involved with the Festival of Lights on the aquatics and entertainment committees, plus he does the fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer.

Lesley received a Kenner Gold K, the Peterborough Proud Award, and the City of Peterborough Volunteer of the Year Award in 1994.  Both Don and Lesley received City of Peterborough Community Betterment awards in 1999 and a special award from City Council that year for their community efforts.  Don and Lesley encourage all students to positively participate in their communities.  They believe family is a priority, community involvement has many rewards, and a strong work ethic is the foundation for everything. Don and Lesley are honoured to be the first couple in the Kenner Hall of Honour and to be included for their work in the community.  They salute all their fellow volunteers.

A "Kennerite" from 1960 to 1966, Eleanor studied Journalism at Ryerson before beginning a varied working life that has included stints in advertising, manufacturing, retail management, wholesale distribution, shopping centre marketing and property management.  She is presently Centre manager of Peterborough Square.

Eleanor feels that her 1966 yearbook comment still applies to her life today:  "So much to do, to see, to be - and so little time".

Marg attended Kenner from 1980 to 1985. She went on to graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo in 1988, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. In her final year at Laurier, she received the Students’ Union “Laurier Award” for her “unselfish dedication beyond the classroom, leadership qualities, and honesty, integrity and conviction.”

Marg is currently working as the Canadian Field Marketing Representative for Checkfree iSolutions, working out of their Waterloo office. For two years prior to her current position, Marg worked as a Sales Representative for Bell Actimedia (the Yellow Pages). Marg has previously worked as a highly successful professional fundraiser for local branches of two national charitable organizations.

Marg currently serves on the Uptown Vision Committee for the City of Waterloo, responsible for advising City Council on issues affecting the city core. She is also a Board member of Emmanuel Day Nursery and the former Vice-Chair of the St. Jacobs Family Birthing Home. 

Lorna attended Kenner and graduated from P.C.V.S.  She worked at Canadian General Electric for nine years, and then pursued a teaching career.  She taught at Lakefield District Secondary School prior to a thirteen-year hiatus to be a full-time mom to two sons, Dean and Ian.  Lorna returned to teaching in 1981 as a Professor at Sir Sandford Fleming College, and in 1992 was appointed Academic Division Leader in the School of Business.  She retired in 1997 and is currently working part-time for MPP Gary Stewart.

Lorna has volunteered for United Way, Five Counties Children's Centre, Canadian, Cancer Society and Hospice. She is currently chair of the Former Employees of Fleming and the Fleming Archives Committees, and is a Board Member of the Friends of Fleming Foundation.  She sat on the Board of Directors of the Peterborough Curling Club for fourteen years and served two years as Board President.  She is a published author, loves woodworking, plays duplicate bridge, and is an avid gardener.  She is a strong advocate of life-long learning, having earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1995 through part-time studies.

Lorna chaired the Kenner 50th Reunion Committee.  She and husband John reside in Ennismore.

Kim graduated in 1984 and proceeded to a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in English and History at the University of Toronto. She started working for the City of Toronto Employment and Social Services Division (TESS) in 1991. From 1995 to present day Kim has worked in various middle and senior management positions in strategic planning, employment strategies and initiatives, the development of the Regent Park Employment Plan and the development of the City of Toronto Workforce Development Strategy. While enjoying working in these areas she missed interacting directly with people. When the opportunity arose to become Senior Manager responsible for direct operations, Kim applied and is now managing the operation of the Golden Mile Employment and Social Services Office – the largest TESS office in Toronto. She is currently accountable for ensuring that the City of Toronto's Workforce Development Strategy is implemented at the local level, with the result that residents are connected to jobs through direct relationships with employers.  Married with two daughters Kim always found the time to participate in community activities connected to her children. An active member of school parent councils for ten years, Kim took on major positions including Chairperson, Secretary and Fund Raising Coordinator. She was also an active member of both the Clarington Girls Hockey Association Executive Board and the Whitby Girls Hockey Association. She became the Tournament Director for the annual Whitby Wolf Fest House League Tournament for numerous years. Currently, Kim represents TESS on the city emergency management response team. Kim has successfully managed to balance both work and family.

Lori attended Kenner from 1982 to 1986.  While at Kenner she was involved with the ACTA Yearbook, holding the position of Editor-In-Chief during her last two years.  Lori attended Sir Sandford Fleming College and graduated from the Office Administration Program in 1988.  She is currently working for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board as Senior Secretary at Kenner C.V.I.

Lori was a member of the Canadian Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 1986, when they won the highest possible award as "A" Class World Champions.  Also, Lori has been actively involved with several youth groups, including the Canadian Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Special and Visual FX Ensembles, and most recently the Spirit Colour Guard.

Lori and her husband Sean have two beautiful daughters, Kaylie and Nicole. They reside in Peterborough.

Mal attained a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa based on his aptitude for math and sciences in high school.  He later discovered that his true interests were with people, communications and leadership.  After working overseas, Mal returned to pursue a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Toronto.  Mal has been described as a serial entrepreneur in the high-technology industry.  He has thrived in fast-paced and high-risk business environments.  Mal has been involved in several high-technology business ventures and he has over fifteen years of professional business-to-business marketing and sales experience.  During his early career, he worked overseas for Nortel Networks implementing a national telecommunications network for Morocco.  Living and working in foreign culture and language was a profound, life-changing experience.  Based on his work performance overseas, Nortel awarded him a post-secondary bursary to pursue his Masters in Business Administration.

Mal volunteers because he believes giving back to the community deeply enriches his life.  Mal’s community service is focused on two key interests in his life: business entrepreneurship and the development of youth life skills.  For several years he has been working with Junior Achievement of Ottawa-Carleton (JAOC) as an executive member and as a program volunteer to teach youth business skills in public schools.  He developed his most important life skills playing competitive sports at Kenner – perseverance, focus, hard work, leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork.  As a result, he has been a volunteer coach for youth basketball and youth soccer for many years.

Colin, the little brother of Robin, a fellow Hall of Honour Inductee attended Kenner Collegiate from 1956 to 1961.  During his years at Kenner, Colin was a member of the debating team, track and field team and the midget football team.  Colin received his Honours B.A. in History in 1965 and his M.A. in 1966, both from the University of Toronto.  He taught at Oshawa’s O’Neil Collegiate,

1966-68, before returning to the University of Toronto to pursue doctoral studies.  In 1973, one year before receiving his Ph.D., he and his wife, Jackie, also a Kenner grad, went to Winnipeg where Colin taught at the University of Winnipeg.  In 1976 he returned to Ontario to teach at Huron College in London.  Colin taught in Japan for three years from 1986 – 1988.  Colin has been an active scholar and a published academic writer.

Colin was Chair of the Canadian Historical Associations Regional History Committee, was a member of the CHS’s Macdonald Prize Committee, sat on the Board of Directors for the Champlain Society and was an executive board member of the Ontario Historical Society.  Colin has much enjoyed his scholarly career and would recommend his career path to anyone who prizes a life of the mind.  It is a particular delight that his son, Geoff has completed his doctorate in French history.

Robin left Kenner in 1958 and enlisted in the Canadian Army from 1960 - 63.  In 1964 Robin joined the firm of Transamerica Financial and within eight years moved to the rank of Vice President.  Robin was transferred to Orlando Florida in January 1974 and was in charge of the southeastern United States with 112 Branches and 900 employees. In 1976 Robin joined the company of Associates Capital Corporation as Senior Vice-President of Eastern Canada Headquarters, Toronto, Ontario and within four years was promoted to president of Associates Financial Services Canada with 264 Branches and 1500 employees.  Robin was also registered at Colorado State University and took many courses from 1976 - 1980.  In 1980 Robin was promoted to President of Associates Financial Services Canada and was relocated to Dallas, Texas to consult the Mortgage Banking division.

  In 1983 Robin started his own food services company called Pharlap Inc. and in 1989 sold the company to travel in Asia.  Robin joined the company of B.F.R. Industries in 1991 as Chief Operating Office. He expanded and re-named the company Encon Systems Inc. and moved Head Office to Boston where he took the company public on Nasdaq with major clients in the United States.   Robin joined the firm of Sutton Group All Pro Realty Inc. and presently enjoys working part-time consulting in the financial services end of the business.  Robin had numerous memberships on many boards including the North York Association for the Mentally Handicapped,  Associates Capital Corp. Canada, Econ Systems Inc., Peterborough Unemployment Counselling,  and is presently a member of the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society and Jamaica Self Help program.

Paul Rexe graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1963.  He received the first Bronze Plaque for participation in Athletics.  Paul also earned the Malby award based upon the combination of Sportsmanship and Scholarship.  He was in the first class at Trent.  Paul Rexe was elected alderman, in two different wards, in the City of Peterborough.  He received the Ontario Bi-centennial Medal for promoting bus passes for Senior Citizens and for establishing a race relations committee in Peterborough.  He has had a distinguished teaching career with the P.C.B.E. and was Head of History at Crestwood Secondary School.

Paul now writes on occasion for the Peterborough Examiner, is active in many community affairs, and is the present Chairman of the Kenner Foundation.

Miriam graduated from Kenner with first class honours as an Ontario Scholar in 1960.  She studied Pharmacy at the University of Toronto and in 1971 she returned to university to study medicine at the University of Western Ontario.  She was awarded membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honour Society.

After her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto she trained in retina-vitreous surgery at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.  In 1982 she returned to Toronto to set up the vitreous surgical service at Toronto General Hospital.  Miriam is currently a surgeon in Charlotte N.C., and a Professor at Bowman Grey School of Medicine, Wake Forest University.

Grant attended the University of Toronto to obtain a B.A.Sc. Degree in Engineering Science (1969) and a M.A.Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering (1790).  Next, he acquired a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (1975).

After graduating, Grant has worked as a reservoir engineer in the oil and gas industry.  He first worked for Chevron in California, Saudi Arabia and Texas.  The rest of his career has been spent in Texas working for British Petroleum, Ryder Scott Company and Anadarko Petroleum.  Grant has published technical papers and given presentations worldwide.

Grant has been a very active volunteer in the Society of Petroleum Engineers.  He has performed different leadership functions in the Saudi Arabian and Houston Sections.  He has taught courses and has been an invited speaker at various meetings.  For the Houston Youth Symphony and ballet, Grant volunteered for different roles, such as President.  He also is an Adjunct Professor for the Petroleum Engineering Program at the University of Houston.

After graduating from Kenner, Gerry proceeded to the University of Waterloo where he studied Civil Engineering in the Co-op program. Between his four-month study sessions, he was employed at CGE and the City of Peterborough.

After graduation, he worked in Pembroke for a short time with Greer Galloway from Peterborough. In 1972 he was hired full-time by the City of Peterborough as a junior design engineer. His career spanned 34 years with the City filling the positions of Design Services Engineer, Chief Design Engineer, Manager of Engineering and Construction and Director of Utility Services Department from 2001-2007. As a Director, Gerry was responsible for the largest City Department with a $68,000,000 operating and capital budget and over 220 full-time employees. He oversaw five divisions including Engineering and Construction, Public Works, Transportation, Solid Waste Management and Environmental Services.

Gerry’s special accomplishments include Lansdowne Street Rehabilitation, the Inverlea Bridge Restoration, the multimillion-dollar upgrade to the Waste Water Treatment Plant and getting the Bensfort Road Landfill Site approved for an extension.

He has been actively involved in the Progress Club and Air Force Club in the 70’s, a member of the Waste Management Steering Committee, on the Board of Directors of the Peterborough Green-Up Committee and a member of the Emergency Committee for Peterborough.

Following my graduation from Kenner, I pursued my interests in math and science by enrolling in the Chemical Engineering program at the University of Waterloo.  During my work terms, I lived in Sarnia, Toronto and Calgary working with companies developing business application software, solving engineering simulation problems and performing petroleum refining research.  I completed my engineering degree and moved to Toronto to work for Imperial Oil as a software engineer, eventually transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I returned to school to pursue study in medicine at Dalhousie University.  After my first year, I transferred to the University of Toronto to complete my degree so that I could be with my wife and newly born first son.  I completed my medical degree and entered the medical speciality training in Occupational Medicine, combining my interests in science, medicine and administration.  During my medical residency training, I completed my Masters of Business Administration part-time.  Any free time that I might have had was filled by the arrival of my second son during my medical residency.

Now I am an independent occupational medicine physician, seeing employees or patients at work or in hospital clinics for injury treatment, assessing work suitability and assisting with a return to work.

After leaving Kenner in 1974, Greg was employed at Canadian General Electric in Peterborough in various positions until 1983.  Greg started to pursue a career as a Fire Fighter in 1982 and after a series of written and oral exams was offered the position of Probationary Fire Fighter with the Peterborough Fire Department in 1984.  He progressed to the position of Fire Fighter First Class in 1998 and he achieved the rank of Acting Captain in May 1991.  He transferred to the Fire Prevention Division as a First Class Fire Prevention Officer in 1995.  With his position, he was deemed an assistant to the Ontario Fire Marshall and was expected to carry out the duties of this position with the City of Peterborough. In 2000, after finishing first in a competitive examination process, Greg was promoted to the position of Fire Prevention Captain, a position he currently holds.  Greg has completed a number of courses over the past 18 years including:  NFPA 921 Fire Investigation, Forensic Photography, Plans Examination, Vehicle Fire Investigation, Fire Investigation Techniques, Roles and Responsibilities of Expert Witnesses and Certified as a Fire Prevention Officer by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall. Greg has been involved with many community service groups including the Canadian Hearing Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association, United Way, and YWCA, just to name a few as well as the President of Local 169 PPFFA for the past six years. Greg has been blessed with a very understanding and supportive wife, Pamela, two grown sons Wesley and Chad, both who attended Kenner for a short period of time and two adorable grandchildren Brody and Ella Rose Simmons.

Karen graduated from Kenner C.V.I. in 1978.  She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Honour Degree from Trent University, including one year at the Universite de Nantes, and her Bachelor of Laws Degree from Queen's University.  She is currently practising commercial real estate and environmental law with the firm of Blake, Casels & Graydon in Toronto.  Karen is married and she and her husband, Bruce Fitzpatrick, have one son.

Jo-Anne attended K.C.V.I. from 1970-1975.  She received her B.Sc (Honours, First Class, Life Sciences) in 1979, M.Sc. (Virology & Immunology) in 1980 from Queen’s University, Rotary Foundation Graduate Fellowship from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1981.  Jo-Anne is currently the Director for Research & Postgraduate Administration at the University of Otago and is responsible for the administration of millions of dollars per annum of externally funded and internally distributed research funds as well as the monitoring of 700 PhD student applications, registrations and the final examination process.

Jo-Anne married Mark Skinner in 1982 and they bought and managed a small food establishment in the tourist town of Arrowtown, New Zealand, which was the only food establishment at the time, for that area.  After two years of running the 7-day a week business, they decided to sell and start a family, which now consists of four children: Taryn, Gregory, Alanna and Taylor.

Her volunteer/community involvement includes Goldfields Primary School Board of Trustees, Cromwell & Districts Playcentre - Assistant Supervisor and Cromwell District Swimming Club member.

The family leisure activities consist of gold mining, fishing and camping and for Jo-Anne, reading and knitting from wool she has spun herself.

Michael Skinner is a 33-year-old business entrepreneur who has owned numerous companies all over Canada primarily in the Information Technology and Financial Sector.  Today Michael is CEO and founder of Operitel Corporation which was recognized by Profit Magazine in 2006 as one of Canada’s hottest companies and in 2008 as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies.  Operitel won the Entrepreneurial Spirit award in 2006 and just recently in 2009 the Employer of the Year award from the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce.  Michael has guided Operitel through the many stages of corporate growth including seed investment, management team assembly, resource training, competitive research, product development, client adoption, product marketing, client support and client retention. He also helped establish Operitel as an Independent Software Vendor for Microsoft and Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.

In addition, Michael co-authored the chapter "Changing your LMS from Hype to Happiness" which has been published in the "Plan to Learn: Case Studies in eLearning Project Management" and "eLearning Project Management: Canadian Perspective". Michael also coauthored two whitepapers on eLearning: Effective Management of Distributed Educational Content and e-Commerce and e-Learning.

Michael has been a volunteer with the Peterborough Regional Health Center Foundation and is currently a member of the Kawartha Labour Market Planning Committee.   

When Hugh helped his father paint the new Kenner high school in the summer of 1952, before starting there for grade 9, he never imagined that 50 years later he would be recognized on the Hall of Honour.

Hugh was born and raised in Peterborough.  He received his B.Sc. in mathematics from Carleton University and worked as a systems analyst with the National Research Council and IBM.  During this time, Hugh and his brother Ross bought three small apartment buildings and began to build the company that would become AON Inc.

In 1972 Hugh returned to Peterborough to monitor the growing real estate holdings.  After ten years in administration at Sir Sandford Fleming College, he left to concentrate his energies as Vice President of AON.  AON currently owns commercial and residential holdings in Peterborough, Lindsay, Port Hope and Houston, the Port Hope Golf Club and the three Gardens of Peterborough Retirement Residences.

In addition, Hugh was a founding member and treasurer of the Peterborough Flying Club for over 30 years, a founding director of the Downtown Business Improvement Area, and served on the Alzheimer's Board, Library Foundation Board and the Peterborough Curling Club Board.

Now retired, Hugh spends his time at the cottage, cruising the Trent system in his boat and travelling extensively.  He can still be seen walking around downtown, visiting with the store owners, always greeting everyone with a friendly smile.

Ross graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1962.  He received his diploma in Mechanical Technology from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1965.

Ross has had a very successful business career.  He rose to the position of President of Hardinage Mining Equipment Sales before he established and became the president of AON Incorporated in 1972.  AON Incorporated has developed into an important North American development company with major projects in Toronto, Port Hope, Lindsay, and Houston, Texas.  Their projects in Peterborough include City Centre, Charlotte Mews, the Charlotte Mews Corporate centre and the Jackson Square Corporate Centre.

Bob Steele was born in Peterborough and attended Kenner Collegiate from 1968 until 1972.  He studied piano from age 7 with Herbert Michel and received Grade 10 piano from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto.  In his teens, Bob was a member of the “Bobby Kinsman Orchestra” and the group “Peter’s Half Dozen.”  While at Kenner, Bob studied trombone and was a member of the Peterborough Civic Concert Band and the award-winning Kenner Band under the direction of Joseph Curran.  He considers his years with Mr Curran to be inspirational in his decision to enter a career in music.  After attending Trent University for one year, Bob transferred to the Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass., where he received a bachelor of Music Degree with honours in Music Composition.  Since then, Bob has been based in Toronto, working on stage and in the studio as Keyboardist, Arranger and Vocalist.  He is a published songwriter with Sony Music and has worked with Canadian recording artists and on numerous commercial jingles.  He also leads his own top 40 dance band under the name “Arden and the Tourists,” performing regularly for many special events including Kenner’s 40th reunion.  Bob has been the musical director for many live shows that were sent to entertain the Canadian and U.N. troops at home and overseas.  He has led groups to Europe, the Middle East and the Canadian Arctic, as well as a 10-day tour in 1994 to various U.N. Bases in Bosnia and Croatia during the Bosnian War.

After graduating from Kenner in 1962 and working seven years at CGE as a design draftsman, Howie returned to Kenner in 1969 as a teacher.  He taught phys ed, art, drafting, auto mechanics and small engines and became technical Director in 1989.  During his educational career, he developed technological programming at the provincial level in addition to maintaining active involvement as head of Kenner's student council.  Through his fund-raising efforts, the school was able to purchase the lawn sign and the sound and lighting system in the Pod.

He coached soccer, volleyball, hockey and lacrosse.  Under his leadership, Kenner's Lacrosse team won several provincial championships.  In 1988 he coached Canada's World Junior field lacrosse team to a silver medal in Australia and coached Peterborough's Junior and Senior field lacrosse teams, winning provincial and national championships.

His athletic leadership has been recognized at the provincial level, with his election as Chairman of Junior Hockey for the Ontario association, and then as Chairman of Junior Hockey for the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association.  During this period he served in an organizational capacity at the Canada Winter Games in Quebec and also organized and ran several National Centennial Cup Tournaments.  He has been recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation for his work in organizing the International World Junior tournament hosted by Canada and held in Hamilton in 1986.

Gary Stewart graduated from Kenner in 1955 and from the Banting Institute as a funeral director in 1960.  He has owned and operated a number of businesses in the Peterborough area over the last thirty years and represented a major Canadian distiller.  Mr Stewart is currently president of G. Stewart Travel, a company he founded in 1974 which offers a full-service travel agency and operates its own motor coach for tour and charter groups.

He has been actively involved in professional and community organizations as a member and past president of the Peterborough Sales and Ad Club, the Peterborough Transportation Club and the Kiwanis Club of the Kawartha’s.  He is currently a member of the Kawartha Rotary Club.

Mr Stewart has been active in local politics since 1982 serving as a councillor in Otonabee Township for four years and Deputy Reeve of the township since 1986.  He was the first Deputy Reeve to hold the position of Warden of Peterborough County, as well as first to be returned to that position for three consecutive terms since the early 1800s.  He entered the provincial political arena in 1994.

Carol graduated from Kenner in 1974.  She studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Trent University until 1977 and an Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Ontario until 1979.  In 1980, she graduated with a Master of Library Science from the University of Western Ontario.

In 1980, Carol accepted a position with Canadian University Students Overseas in Peru, leaving to return home in 1982 for five years during a time of political unrest.  She was appointed an editor of Canadian Business Index and Canadian News Index Publications from 1985-1987.  On her return to Peru in 1987 as CUSO cooperant, she served as Librarian in two university libraries and several documentary centres in non-governmental organizations.  Currently, she is collaborating in an electronic communications project with a feminist documentary centre in Lima, which provides an information network for women in several parts of the country.

Jeannine grew up in the south end and spent her high school years at Kenner. After graduating in 1978, Jeannine studied Arts Administration (1981) and Marketing (1988) at Sir Sandford Fleming College.  Her education in these areas led her into a variety of arts, marketing and communications positions including: Marketing Director of Lansdowne Place (1987 to 1990); The Downtown BIA (1990 to 1993); Managing Editor of several local magazines; and a freelance marketing consultant.  In 1995 she established her internet company, Quid Novis, and web hosting company, Proteus, which have been profitable and successful for 14 years (to 2009).  The ezine at quidnovis.com has been online since 1996 and is one of the longest running websites in central Ontario.

Jeannine’s web company Quid Novis has garnered several international, national and local design and marketing awards. Jeannine was the recipient of Peterborough Business Woman of the Year (2005) and a recipient (2001) of a Peterborough Civic Award for her volunteer work as Chair of Otonabee River Trail / Millennium Park Fundraising Committee.  Jeannine’s other awards include two Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards (2004) and a Premier’s Award Nomination (2003).  Jeannine is a member of Women’s Business Network and is an active community volunteer.

Jeannine is the daughter of Dorothy and John Taylor, long time south end residents and activists. John Taylor Memorial Park at McKellar and Hamilton Streets is named for Jeannine’s father who passed away in 1999. 

Mr Taylor was a Kenner valedictorian in 1970.  He graduated from Trent University (B.A. 1973) and Queen's University (LL.B. 1976).  Following graduation, he travelled extensively throughout North America and Europe.  He commenced the practice of law in 1979 as a municipal lawyer in Oshawa and Brampton before returning to Peterborough in 1981 as the City's first City solicitor.

He has instructed at Sir Sandford Fleming College and is an Adjunct professor at Trent University associated with the Administrative and Policy Studies program.  He has volunteered his talents to many local non-profit groups including the County/City Disaster Fund, Activity Haven, the "Friends of Sport" Foundation and the Kenner Foundation.

John Thompson graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1959.  He earned a B.S.A. from the University of Toronto in 1963 and a PhD in Plant Biochemistry from the University of Alberta in 1966.  He spent two years as a Medical Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Birmingham in England.  John then joined the U. of Waterloo where he became Professor of Biology and then Chairman of Biology.  In 1987 he moved to the University of Guelph to become Professor and Chair of the Department of Horticultural Science and in 1990 he returned to the University of Waterloo as Dean of Science.  He has held positions as Visiting Professor in Israel and in England.  His research interests include Aging and Senescence.  John has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications in his field.

Peter is currently the Strength and Conditional Coach for the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL.  He graduated from Kenner in 1982 with the Athlete of the Year Award, the Malby Award, the MVP Award and as President of S.A.C. the B.A.A.  He attended McMaster University graduating with First Class Honours in Physical Education and Recreation.  Next, he enrolled in a Master’s program in Physical Education at the UBC graduating with First Class Honours in 1991.  During this time he worked as a research assistant, publishing texts and articles of note in his field.  He played for the UBC Thunderbirds earning athletic and academic scholarships and the est Defenceman award.  In 1986 he was appointed Director of Campus Recreation and Director of the fitness Lab UBC.  In 1992, he was asked to be the Condition Coach for the UBC Thunderbirds and later for the Vancouver Canucks.  He is Director of the Fitstrong Human Performance Centre and a consultant in facilities design at UBC.

The guidance counsellors suggested that his career might lie in accountancy or engineering.  His father hoped he would take up law. But when Doug Vaisey left Kenner Collegiate he intended to reform the world – bring peace, end poverty and restore integrity to government.  After a history degree in Trent University’s first class, he chanced on librarianship; his mentors described him as “a natural.”  It created the opportunity to advance the education and research of hundreds of faculty and students, to mentor a generation of young librarians, and to participate in a pioneering era of information automation.  His best work, The Labour Companion: a bibliography of Canadian labour history, was one of the first omnibus readings lists in the field. But he also achieved success in faculty union work, community orchestra leadership, and library technology implementation. It turned out that the better route to reforming the world was to do the best job possible in the corner of Canada in which he lived.

Doug Vaisey has been the Head of Reference at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia for over thirty years. He will tell you that it is not boring work, that you learn something new every day, and that it is those who take one step forward when everyone else takes one step back who learn the most in life.  One librarian he mentored, now a community college administrator, described him as the “Dean of Nova Scotia reference librarians.”

After leaving Kenner Lisa studied at the Université de Québèc à Chicoutimi where she completed a certificate in French Immersion and the University of Waterloo where she completed a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies. She travelled to Yellowknife in March 1993 employed by the YWCA.   She then moved to a small aboriginal community (Wekweti) where she assumed the role of the Community Recreation Coordinator.  In addition, she coached both cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and took teams to several championships, including the Arctic Winter Games in 1996 & 1998 in Alaska and Yellowknife, respectively. Her greatest challenge was to design, develop, and access the much needed recreational infrastructure. In the end, the community enjoyed an outdoor rink, gymnasium with all the necessary facilities, canoes, professionally groomed cross-country ski trails, baseball field, and a range of both summer and winter sports and recreation equipment. As the Recreation Coordinator, she did bookkeeping for the  Department. This led to the creation of the Finance Officer position for the community government in 1996.  She continued to provide support to the new Recreation Coordinator, coaching and mentoring the youth in the community on a voluntary basis.  In June 1998, the community hosted the Tribal Annual General Meeting and decided to build a multi-purpose structure that could accommodate three hundred people. Due to weather conditions transporting materials into the community was not an option.  Lisa was able to arrange the purchase and delivery of materials from Edmonton.  She decided to pursue a Certified General Accounting (CGA) designation and began studies in 1998.  Lisa is presently employed by the City of Calgary Recreation Department as Acting Finance Leader.  In 2004 Lisa completed her CGA designation.

Stephen graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1968.  In the fall of that year, he accepted a Hockey Scholarship at Clarkson College in Potsdam, New York.  During his four years at Clarkson, he was twice named an All-American defenseman.  He graduated with honours in 1972 with a B.Sc. in Industrial management and went on to play professional hockey in the WHA.  Steve received his Masters in 1978 from Clarkson.  In 1980 he returned to Potsdam and is now owner and partner of Van Ness Company, an electrical wholesale store, and CJ’s Enterprises, a retail beverage store.  In 1991, Steve received the Barben Award from Clarkson for Commitment to the community and in 1996 was named Citizen of the year by the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce.  He has been a coach and administrator in the Potsdam Minor Hockey Program for 25 years.  Steve resides in Potsdam with his wife Kathy of 29 years.  They have three children, Kristin 26, Ryan 22, and Joshua 18 years.

During his student days, Gary was very active in the sports program at Kenner and held part-time employment at the Peterborough Memorial Center.  After graduation in 1975, he became a licensed real estate salesperson for Grey-Munore Realty Ltd. but, returned in 1977 to the public assembly field as Assistant Manager of the Memorial Center.  In 1989 he was promoted to Acting Manager and shortly after he was named the Center’s third Manager since opening in 1956.  His reputation in the industry earned Gary the position of Managing Director when the position was created in 1991, which included Management of Kinsmen and Northcrest arenas.

In June of 1994, Gary accepted the position of Executive Vice President of Stadium Consultants International Inc., a firm which specializes in the development of major sports facilities throughout the world such as the Toronto Skydome, G.M. Place in Vancouver and Hawkstown Dome in Japan.  He continues through his new company to provide strategic advice to the Memorial Center and assist in contracting the various attractions that appear there.

Inspector John Watkins is the commanding officer of the Kawartha OPP Detachment - responsible for delivery of all OPP services throughout Peterborough County.

Mr Watkins was born and raised in the City of Peterborough and attended Kenner Collegiate from 1967 to 1969.  He was a member of two OFFSA and three COSSA sports teams.  He was a member of the first Law and Security Program at Sir Sandford Fleming College.  He continued his education in 1974 taking part-time studies at the University of Windsor and Trent University, graduating in 1984 with a BA Degree in Sociology.  He also achieved all three levels of certification in Police Management Training from the University of Western Ontario and the Ontario and Canadian Police Colleges and was awarded a diploma in Advanced Police Sciences.

Inspector Watkins has served in several area Detachments.  He was promoted to Inspector in 1997.  In September 1997, he returned to Peterborough as the OPP Area Commander.  He was awarded a Queen’s Commission in 1974 designating him as a Commissioned Officer.  Inspector Watkins has been a strong supporter of his community and has worked with a number of agencies and volunteer groups in the City and County of Peterborough.  He has also assisted several of our Peterborough community citizens in obtaining employment as police officers with various police agencies in Ontario.  John’s wife, Janet, is also a graduate of Kenner Collegiate, and they have a son, Chris and a daughter, Janet Lynn.

Doug graduated from Kenner in 1966 and started his career with Canadian General Electric in the Data Processing group.  While in the Information Systems area he held a variety of positions from Operations Shift Leader, Programmer, Supervisor Data Control, and Systems Analyst.  He is currently a Manufacturing Systems Specialist responsible for the implementation of computerized Material Requirement Planning and Shop Floor Control systems at General Electric plants in the United States, Mexico as well as Canada.

Doug has been an active member of our community.  He has served as Chairman of the Mentally Handicapped Associations’ preschool program and also as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice-Chair of the Peterborough & District Association for the Mentally Handicapped.  Doug was elected to the position of Trustee for the Peterborough County Board of Education.  During his nine years as a Trustee, he was elected Vice Chair and served as the Chairman of the Board on two occasions.  Doug was a member of the original Board of Directors of the Kenner Foundation.

A graduate of Kenner in 1969 Dr Wesenberg received a B.Sc (1972) and Honours B.Sc. (1973) in Chemistry and Biology and an M.Sc. (1974) in Biochemistry from Trent University.  He received a PhD (1977) in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Windsor.

After internships in Windsor, he became Associate Director, Clinical Laboratories at Detroit General Hospital and the Health Care Institute (1977 – 1980).  In 1979, he was appointed Assistant Professor, Wayne State University.  He was also a Visiting Assistant Professor, University of Windsor.

Since 1980, Dr Wesenberg has been the Clinical Chemist for the David Thompson Health Region based in Red Deer, Alberta.  After achieving certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (1983), he was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (1986).

He has published many scientific articles and has presented over 30 research abstracts at national and international congresses.  In 2003, Dr Wesenberg was honoured as the recipient of the CSCC Award for Outstanding Contribution to Clinical Chemistry.

Following my graduation from Kenner in 1958 I attended Peterborough Teachers’ College.  During the eight years following my teacher training I taught at the elementary level, first in Ottawa, then in Peterborough area schools where I also served as school principal.

In 1968 I was recruited to teach at Peterborough Teachers College where I remained until 1973 when I transferred to the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University.  For the next twenty-two years, I taught at Queen’s in the areas of educational psychology and curriculum design at both the B. Ed. and Masters levels.  As well, while at Queen’s I held a number of administrative positions the last of which was Dean (acting) for two years.

During my years at Queen’s I enjoyed a wide variety of experiences that included: being a Visiting Fellow at the School of Education, University of East Anglia (Norwich, England) for the academic year 1985-86, representing Canada at a UNESCO/Council of Europe Conference in Liechtenstein (1988), serving as President of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies, and coordinating summer courses for Ontario teachers in the U.K.

Following my retirement from Queen’s I have served as a policy advisor to the U.N. Mission in Kosovo on behalf of CIDA, and have worked on evaluation studies for the Queen’s University School of Business and the Ontario College of Teachers.  Recently I was made Senior Research Fellow in the Centre on Governance at the University of Ottawa and as such, I was engaged in the generation of a workforce development strategy for the City of Ottawa.

Peter attended Kenner from 1962-1967, then graduated from the University of Waterloo where he graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics in 1972.  He joined Honeywell Information Systems as a systems representative then became Manager of Computer Programming at CBS Records, Canada in 1976.  He completed an MBA from York University in 1979.  In 1981, he was appointed Manager of Information Services at Ethicon Ltd. and in 1984, Manager of Cost Accounting.  In 1986, the Society of Management Accounts invested him as a Certified Management Accountant and he was also promoted to Director of Finance, Johnson & Johnson Hospital Services.  In 1991, he became V.P., Informational Services, and in 1993 V.P., Financial & Informational Services, Johnson & Johnson Medical Products, a company which as a Management Board member he helped consolidate from five companies.  Mr White is a Board member of CarNet, at the Peterborough Civic Data Centre and the United Way.

Joan Whitfield graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1959.  She received her B.A. from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, in 1963.  This was followed by her M.D. from Queen's in 1965 and her F.R.C.P. (C) in 1970.  She is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Ottawa.  Dr Whitfield is a past president of the Medical Staff of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.  She has published a paper on the subject of "Women in Pediatrics" and she is a committee member of the Canadian Pediatric Society.

After graduating from Kenner in 1968, Agnes studied contemporary French and Quebec literature at Queen's University, Universite de Paris-IV (Sorbonne) and Universite Laval (Ph.D., 1981)  After working as a translator for the Department of Secretary of State, she was appointed to the French Department at Queen's University in 1980.  In 1992, she was named Director of the School of Translation at Glendon College, York University.  Besides numerous articles and an edited volume on Quebec literature, she has published Le je(u) ilocutoire.  Forme et conestation dans le roman qubecois contemporain, and translated Venite a cantare (Divine Diva) in English, a novel by Quebec author Daniel Gagnon.  In 1974 she married Stanislav J. Kirschbaum, Professor of International Studies at York University; they have three daughters:  Olga, Sophia and Alexandra.

Margaret graduated from K.C.V.I. in 1960.  She obtained her M.D. degree from Queen's University in 1966 and received her diploma in Child Psychiatry from the University of Toronto in 1972.  This was followed by her F.R.C.P. (C) in 1972.  Dr Whitfield is Staff Psychiatrist, Hospital for Sick Children and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.  She maintains a private practice in addition to her athletic interests.  Although primarily a clinician, she does write and present professional papers in her area of speciality.

He graduated from K.C.V.I. in June 1973.  Three years later he returned to Canada (from New Zealand) to pursue an acting career.  Second City Comedy workshops and work at SCTV was followed by improv comedy at the Flamingo Cabaret.  Peter formed "the Frantics" and for eight years they wrote and performed for the Stage, Radio, and T.V.

Currently well into a new career as a performer, writer of TV sitcoms and shows, Peter has written two plays and keeps up his "voice work" for animations and commercials.

Tara was a student at KCVI from 1979-1984.  At KCVI, Tara was involved in all aspects of cultural life - student council, drama club, cross-country ski team, school newspaper, Riel House Executive and Editor of the Yearbook.

A graduate from Centennial College’s Corporate Communications program in 1986, she spent the next twelve years as Director of Communications for two of Canada’s largest hotel chains, Journey’s End Corporation and Choice Hotels Canada.   In 1999, Tara co-founded Fire Engine Inc. - a Toronto-based creative, communications and design studio. To date, she has developed creative solutions for such leading companies as Purolator Courier, Coca-Cola, Girl Guides of Canada and GlaxoSmithKline.

Donald graduated from Kenner Collegiate & Vocational Institute and then attended the University of Guelph and received a B.ScAg (Hon) in 1965.  He taught science at Guelph Collegiate Voc. Inst. and at Adam Scott Collegiate Vocational Institute (Peterborough) from 1965-1975.

From 1975 to present day Donald and his wife Margaret own and operate Woodleigh Farms Ltd. in Cavan Township, Peterborough County.  In the early 1980's Donald was an early adopter of ‘no-till’ planting technology as a soil conservation measure. 

In 1996 Donald became a founding partner and shareholder in PORK 2005 Inc., the first multi-site Pork production alliance in Eastern Ontario.  He was elected a Director on the Ontario Pork Producer’s Marketing Board from 1988 to1994, serving as Vice-Chairman for one year.

Donald is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Veterinary Infectious Diseases Organization, (VIDO) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  VIDO is a research company involved in the development of vaccines against diseases of livestock.

Roy graduated in the second grade 13 class ever to graduate from Kenner Collegiate. (1958). His university career at Western (Arts ’61) was marked more by athletic achievement than marks as he won two Canadian/OQAA wrestling championships and played with the Canadian Championship Mustang football team. He also played on three Canadian lacrosse championship teams. Roy’s entire teaching career was in Peterborough County and culminated in his role as Guidance Head at Kenner where he initiated the Community Policing  Liaison Program and the Kenner Hall of Honour / Kenner Foundation. Roy is being recognized primarily for his community leadership volunteerism. He served as city councillor for sixteen years, chaired the boards of the Peterborough Civic Hospital, the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority, Fairhaven Home for the Aged, the County-City Health Unit, the Kawartha Haliburton Children’s Aid Society and the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies. The Kenner Foundation Leadership Bursary is awarded annually in his name.

Andrew Woodhouse, originally from Birmingham England, attended Kenner from 1981-1984. After graduation, and with much encouragement from his teachers and friends at Kenner, Andrew decided to pursue a career in art. He attended the Ontario College of Art and Design and graduated with Honours 4 years later.

Andrew enjoyed a freelance career in Illustration and Graphic Design, with clients such as Gage Publishing, Northern Reflections, Ontario Hydro, and Polo Ralph Lauren. In 1996 Andrew decided to change careers and pursue the new frontier of digital animation. He has worked as art director and lead technical director on several computer-animated series broadcast internationally. Andrew is the lead technical director and concept artist at a digital animation and special effects studio in Toronto".

Andrew lives in Oshawa with his wife Gillian, son Marc and daughter Sara, and still keeps in touch with many of the friends he made during his time at Kenner.

Risa Zaleski earned a degree in mathematics and engineering from Queen's University in 1989. In her work as a Professional Engineer, she manages a software development team for Nortel, specializing in computer/telephony integration.  Her work with this team helped earn the prestigious Northern Telecom President's Award in 1994.  She is also responsible for training the entire facility in areas of quality assurance, problem-solving, process improvement and computer programming.

Risa is an active volunteer, participating as a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario in career days and science fairs at local high schools and assisting at the community's shelter for abused women and children.  In her leisure, she cycles, skydives, golfs, camps, plays the guitar and pursues her interest in astronomy.

Peter Zecevic attended K.C.V.I. from 1963 to 1968.  His interests included playing in the band, Editor of the Yearbook and was a member of the Basketball and Track and Field teams.  Majoring in Mathematics and in Physics at Trent University plus a year at the Faculty of Education in Toronto prepared Peter for teaching Math and Physics at Widdifield Secondary School in North Bay, Ontario.  He plays Clarinet in the North Bay area band.
